Capture Module Error

Post by skyml »

Hello folk's -

Using 32bit Vista Home Premium on a P4 Intel system w/ 2GB Ram and tons of free HD space and an ATI Radeon X1600 video card.

Installed VS11+ with all updates, Hotfixs and the power pack.

Went to capture video from my firewire mini DV source (Canopus ADVC-100 or my Sony TRV-900 camera) and video studio responded with "unable to initialize capture module or no device is connected" error. I have the correct device selected.

If I close VS11+ and open Windows Movie Maker I can capture fine - no problems. Only VS11+ has this capture error.

Sent a support request to Corel. Clearly stated my error was in capturing video from a mini DV source (not importing video).

After 24 hours of waiting this was their response:

[i]"Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support Services. Kindly try to save the movie file to your hard drive first. The import the video file in the Edit Step of the VideoStudio and check if this works.

Should you require further assistance, please contact us via telephone. A full listing of contact numbers can be found at:

The problem is getting the video to the hard drive in VS11+! Is anyone else out there having capture issues with VS11+ and Vista?

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Update to capture error problem:

Corel has not responded with a new answer... their tech support is pathetic!

-Uninstalled VS11+ from Windows Vista.
-Reinstalled VS11+ with my camera connected and on as someone suggested else where in this form.
-Recieved a install error (#0x80040707) just before the install of the AVcontrolSDK module... error said please install with original disc.
-Uninstalled again after these install errors and redownloaded VS11+ from Corel. Re-read install instructions and found I needed to install hotfix 1 before installing VS11+.
-Installed Hotfix 1 and then tried install of VS11+.... same problem, hotfix1 did not help.
-Tried capture of DV from camera (had to manually select my sony from the device control options in the capture module). VS11+ cycles the camera on like it wants to capture but does nothing. If I close and reopen the capture window the camera cycles on again but this time I consistantly get a "capture module initialaztion and cannot get the drivers compatability" error.

New download of VS11+ to ensure uncorrupted files. Uninstall of VS11+ and application of hot fix 1 and reinstall of VS11+. Still getting install error and capture error from Mini DV camera as source.

Corel is absolutley wortless in responding or helping with this. Please somebody help!

It will be of help to us in any future posts if you click here --> Image so that we can then view your system specifications.

Firstly let us begin with a clean re-installation using the method
Re-Installation of Ulead Products

Now try installing this file first:
uvs11_plus_(e).exe
If for any reason it does not install correctly then try extracting the files to a hard drive folder with winzip and then run the file setup.exe

Next install uvs11_plus_contentpack_(e).exe
Then any parts you may wish from uvs11_bonuscd_(e).exe

Next download and install these files in this order
UVS11_Patch_Eng.exe
UVS11_Plus_ESD_ENG_PowerPack.exe

Sorry.... system specs used to be posted but it appears some things on this forum have changed... I've been a member for at least 5 years longer then it says and I don't even see the profile pic I had from the begining. Updated the specs for my desktop where the problems are.

Here's where I am so far. Manually unistalled VS11+ to include all temp and registry entries then rebooted.

Unzipped the install file into a folder and disabled the AVControlSDK as the hotfix 1 manual workaround suggested. Reinstalled as instructed and then tried to install the AVControlSDK manually. This did not work. Tried the Hotfix1 again and still cannot get AVControlSDK to work.

I also installed the programs you suggested in the order you suggested them. With AVControlSDK install disabled I can Install VS11 no problem (just without AVControlSDK). Any attempt to install with AVControlSDK or manual install of AVControlSDK fails.

I am assuming that it is the AVControlSDK that is preventing me from capturing within VS11+? Is this correct??

Corel finally responded but only to say call them on my bill and of course am having major problems getting tru to their tech support. They refuse to assist via email.

I cannot install VS11+ with the AVControlSDK and I cannot capture withing VS11+ but can capture fine with windows movie maker so I can only assume the two are related.

I do wish to add that Corel's instructions for the manual workaround to hotfix1 are confusing and incorrect. If you manually delet the VS11+ folder as they instruct and try to reinstall the program the setup.exe file just uninstalls the rest of the program and does not install as they suggest it will. After letting it run the uninstall and then reinstalling the program I still cannot get AVControlSDK to install. So applying the patch and trying the manual workaround does not work.

I would like to add that this is a VISTA problem only.... I installed the same program to my XP laptop and it works fine, capture and all. And within VISTA I can capture from both my analog to Canopus ADVC-100 and my Sony TRV-900 mini DV camera with Windows Movie Maker so I know it's not the camera or DV converter nor is it my system or vista. The problem is clearly within VS11+!

I think we have been looking at the wrong thing.
The patch for AVControlSDK is for when an installation hangs
Installation failed. In some cases, during installation of VideoStudio 11/11Plus the error message "A fatal error has occurred during installation" after the message "AVControl SDK will be installed" appears.
You do not mention having such a message and so I suspect the fault is something different. We know you are using firewire and we know that the firewire connection is good because you can capture with Windows Movie maker.

On one of my previous installations I recall seeing a capture module initialization error message and the cure was to adopt this work flow.

1. Connect the camcorder to the computer with the firewire cable but keep the camcorder turned OFF.
2. Start VideoStudio.
3. Select the Capture Tab.
4. Turn the camcorder ON in playback mode
5. A message should now appear stating a new device has been detected and asking if you want to use it.

Please try the above.
