Main Timeline Creates Freeze Frames and Loses Audio Levels

Post by intersilmultimedia »

When I use the Main Timeline to combine other edited timelines within the same project, transitions between subordinate timelines that are a hard cut (not a dissolve, for example), result in the last frame of the outgoing timeline repeating (effectively a brief but noticeable freeze frame) before moving into the new timeline. This is the case in the rendered MPG file; I'm not just talking about while viewing it from within MSP.

Also, if I make banding level changes to the audio in subordinate timelines, these changes are not carried through to the Main Timeline. All the audio seems to come in at the same level as the source.

Any ideas?

I am using:
* MediaStudio Pro 8.00.0028 Trial Package
* Sony HDR-FX1 (recording in HDV mode)
* Windows XP Pro SP2 with 3Gb of memory, a video card, and a hard drive with plenty of room

I have never done HDV, so I'm not qualified to answer, but I've never seen either phenomenon when dealing with DV. However, I seem to remember that there were audio quirks with build 0028 which were sorted out with the SP (not working with the trial version). I speculate that the frozen frame may be because the system has to generate an I frame. Does it still do it if you cut with the last frame as an I frame?

Something else you might try as an experiment: create a new file of the sub-timeline and introduce the saved file in the main timeline.
