Help with tablet needed

Post by brlinker »

I am totally new to digital imaging as a user. I just purchased a tablet and pen set from Aiptek called My Note Premium Digital Notepad / Tablet.
I have installed all the software including PhotoImpact which came with it. Now here is my "newbie" question...

If I have a picture I want to modify, should it show on the tablet? If so, how? Is there a really good tutorial for the novice beginner?

I'm not sure what your expectations are from this tablet of yours. Not knowing your particular device doesn't help much but I am sure that your tablet is not going to show you anything on it.

Whatever you do with your tablet will be stored in memory and can be transferred to a PC.

If you have an image you want to modify, you need to open it in PhotoImpact and use your tablet as an input device. How to set it up to work with PI should be in the manual that came with it.

The only Pen/Tablet's that will have a display are the Wacom Cintiq tablets. The Aiptek My Note Premium apparently records the pen strokes, storing them in memory until you download it from the tablet to an application. However it doesn't have the ability to act as a display.

Thanks so much for the information. I think I'll return it and look into the Wacom you mentioned. I want to use it to modify pictures which I find difficult to do with a mouse.

Shouldn't tablets plug in like a mouse and your movements appear on your PC screen?

Yes they do. However the one the OP was using is different. You can use it to take notes, away from any computer. Then download that later to your PC, and you can also use it like the Wacom Intuos or Bamboo tablets.

The Cintiq tablets, which are real pricey, starting at about $1000 for the smallest one, acts like a monitor. It is like being able to draw on your PC monitor.
