loos like this thing has really gotten sideways
vs now has decided to close without warning when opening any file, project or otherwise
so far, I've:
vs11+ with patch & powerpack
reinstalled, repaired
repaired os
performed system restore on os
still the same behaviour
I've noticed my imported video folder is missing which contained all my imported HDV clips...same with an audio folder
so, what's next?
ps - If I hadn't saved a m2t file, I'd really be screwed
closes on opening any file

VS+11.5, Vdub, Audacity, XPP SP3, IE, Chrome, FF, PSP 7.02
I don't think I repaired the OS after this hard crash...that was last week
looks like the OS has been corrupted again
I also noticed no HDV (1440x1080) options in project properties
so, what's the recommended way to repair my OS? leave VS in and repair or remove it then repair?

Glad you got it working again.
Word of caution though - you appear to have had a problem with your OS twice in recent weeks, you need to investigate why.
Now would be a good time to make a thorough back up of your system.
There are many methods available but the one I prefer is Norton Ghost.
Works with all the existing Windows Systems Win98 XP Vista etc.
You can take your hard drive out and throw it away, place a brand new unformatted hard drive in the computer and Norton Ghost will have your computer back up and running in minutes - just as it was before you threw the old hard drive away.
