VS9 - 6 VCDs on DVD hangs, not enough memory for DVD-Menus

Post by Michael_Mann »

Hi

I'm using VS9 on a Pentium IV (HT, 2, 6 GHz), winxp sp2 and 1 GByte RAM. The autostart is very small (drivers, not more), my windows itself is clean. VS9 is installed in the given path of the installer.
The trial of VS11+ is too slowly on my PC and the features of VS9 are enough for me.

Actual I'm trying to copy some VCDs on a DVD. So I have 2 questions:
1. Where I found the Import-Function 6 VCD to 1 DVD?
In the Authoring-Tool I found this feature but I haven't found any menu to use this feature in the program.
So I make actual the following procedure: I'm searching my original-clips (often with a length of 5 minutes), convert these if there is a need and burn these clips together with the old vsp-Files again on a DVD.
2. Then there is a big other problem. If I generate the titels in the authoring tool there is a limit of 99, sub-titles each titles have the same limit. That's no the problem.
The problem is the high amount of titles and sub-titels. VS9 quits if I have more than f.e. 48 titles and f.e. 300 sub-titles (all inclusive for the whole dvd project).
Very often VS9 generates also anywhere on my harddisk empty folders (9.0 or Ulead Video Studio incl. the sub folder 9.0) if there is a high amount of titles and sub-titels. Also often in this case VS9 don't finds the layouts of the menüs and uses the default menüs or quits with a Not Enough Memory Error.
So I have searched around and have done the workarounds:
1. Increase the swap-file of win to 4 GByte. I have done it on another partition than the boot partition. Works okay under winxp but don't helps in the memory problem of VS9.
2. The workaround to use the DEP-Feature of windows isn't really good and don't workes.

So I have used the taskmanager and found out that VS9 don't works with the swap file of windows and also don't uses the adjustetd working directories (Temporary files folders for projects of VS9 ?). The authoring tool uses only the build in RAM.
What I have to do that VS9 uses the swap file resp. the own working / project folders?

Uleads/corels support can't help because they supports only VS10 and higherand offers only to purchase VS 11.5+...

The confusion arises because you have seen the OUTPUT settings for
archive 6 VCD's to DVD.

This is simply a preset containing suggested values for screen resolution, bit rate and audio format so that you can squeeze a lot of video onto a single layer DVD disc.

There is no option to import 6 VCD's and merge them (thus keeping their existing menus). Put simply the VCD videos are already of low quality and so there is no point in using higher output values, you cannot put back what is not there in the first place. The preset is designed to put up to 6 hours worth of video onto one DVD.

After importing the videos into VideoStudio you must treat them like any other imported videos and create a new Menu Structure from scratch.
