DV converting - last 6% takes ages to complete

Post by artyom »

Who knows why the last 6% of DV file converting (DVD record via share function at VS 8.0) takes much more time then previous 94%? What VS is doing at this last 5-6% of converting?

PS. btw, using DV type 1 indeed require less time to convert, but this last 5-6%.......have no any clue what's going on.

Can you remind us about your computer specifications and tell us the workflow you are using to get from the DV Type 1 or 2 stage to the burning of the disc?

If you are talking about the overall progress for burning a DVD and the progress indicator for that, keep in mind that this process involves several different steps, and that not all of the steps proceed at the same speed. As a result, the progress indicator will not update at a steady speed.

The last step should be the burning and finalization of the actual disk. If you have a lengthy video and a slow DVD burner or low-speed media, or your drive is in PIO mode instead of DMA mode, burning could take an hour. If you can, provide some details about your system so you can get a more relevant answer.

Well,
P-IV 1.7 GHz, 512 RAM, D-1000 fireware card, video - on-board (64 MB, the latest driver)

1. drag DV file (type 1) to timeline
2. Goto Share
3. Create disk
4. Setting custom image as a 'cover'
5. Rock & Roll...

Your procedure is all wrong. Read and follow the Recommended Procedure in the top post.

No-no, I'm talking literally about dv file converting, I know that DVD creating process has several steps to go throw.

I've notice a slight slow down for the last bit too using MSP. I'm guessing as with just about any progress bar it's not entirely accurate... how long is taking compared to the rest.

artyom, you haven't indicated which version of UVS you have. Be aware that V8.0 had a memory leak that was fixed in V8.01, and which could cause a slowdown during the transcoding if all your RAM gets exhausted, and the system is forced to swap to and from virtual memory.

13. Skip to the last screen, Check Record to Disk. Uncheck the next two options.
14. Verify the Required vs. Available disc space.
15. Hit the Output button. Burning should take about 30 minutes at 4x
I'm converting 8,9 Gb file is it still require only 30 mins, really? So I have to stop converting (I'm at 96% right now:-)))
and do the procedure described at that post? Why the guys who've developed VS haven't prohibeted creating DVD from timeline content if it so delays converting+burning process?

The 30 minute figure assumes that you followed the rest of the procedure and are starting out with DVD compliant MPEG files. If you have an 8.9GB AVI file, it is not compliant, but it will be if you follow the previous steps.
