Well I took the plunge and bought 'DVDMovie Factory 6Plus'. Initial signs were good but performance did deteriorate as I progressed through the chapter editing. the response time was creeping upi with each chapter thumbnail I tweaked, but not as significantly as the authoring module in VS11.5+. I eventually managed to complete editing my 20 chapter thumbnails on the menu. Sadly the preview window kept failing. I would go away watch TV, come back and find it was still not responding. I would then have to force it to end using 'Task Manager'.

I tried increasing the pagefile as jeffy said. I have 2GB RAM but windows recommended I only increase the pagefile to 3Gb. After about 15-20 minutes of 'not responding' the preview window would now either come to life or the software would crash forcing me to send another error report to Microsoft. It is unpredictable. I have tried to make the task easier by not selecting any fancy fades between menus and removing all background music - but it makes no difference.

I don't believe it is a corrupt file because VS9 sails through the whole process with ease, using the same video file, and produces a perfect disc.

It seems that I have answered my earlier question and that the full software is not really any different to the module within VS11.5. The inherent flaw exists within both!

Perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh and conclude that both the VS11.5+ authoring module and the full DVDMF6 software are not 'fit for purpose'. But after throwing money at the company for these newer and brighter products I am naturally feeling a little bit cheated.

Perhaps there is a conflict occurring with a background process. I have McAffee antivirus running and have tried looking for a way to disable it but I can't find the option anywhere.

Perhaps I ought to consider upping the numbers again on the page file, but somehow I don't feel this will make much difference.

What do people think, could it be my system or is it the software? Any suggestions for what to tweak next? :(

Try creating a video editing only profile: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13950

Sorry to sound repetitive

If someone handed me a DVD to watch and I looked at the thumbnail menus, I would normally expect it to start with that thumbnail otherwise you might just as well do a text only menu.

As I believe mentioned in one of my earlier posts, the mpeg video clip is a collection of different dances and with different costumes. All of the dances are at the same venue and filmed from the same vantage point so the start of every chapter, ie each dance, looks identical. I search for a point in each dance that is visually interesting, e.g a step, leap or body movement, and that is characteristic of the dance and also shows off the costumes. I'm hardly pushing the software to it's limits, 20 chapters in 58 minutes and no audio in the menus - one SmartScene menu and one Thumbnail. Hardly anything fancy.

Anyway, I followed your recommendation and instructions and created a separate Video Editing profile. I became very confused and nervous when I arrived at the 'registry' part. I have to admit I did not follow that through. It was late and my brain was getting all mixed up. Nevertheless, in this new profile, when I pressed the 'Play to Preview' button nothing happened! I checked Task Manager' which said DVDMF6 was 'Not Responding'. Twelve minutes later it came out of 'Not Responding' mode and I was finally able to see the menus working! I then went on to the next stage. I clicked the 'Burn' button and again 'Task Manager' showed DVDMF6 to be 'Not Responding' Eleven minutes later it kicked into life and the blue bars appeared indicating that the program was actually doing something. Thirty minutes later I had a disc image that I burned to disc using Nero 7 and finally played successfuly on my DVD player.

OK, I can eventually get to the end of the project but it is a slow, laborious, painful and not always consistent process. It is clearly not satisfactory. Until I can try it all again using completely different footage I remain convinced that the authoring module within VS11.5+ and DVDMF6 is seriously flawed.

Also forgot to mention that the 'Video Editing' profile, created with sii1805's tutorial, has made VS11.5+ noticeably more responsive than before.
