I recently purchased a Sony DCR-SR300. I also purchased Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus after reading about it in on several boards. I installed the app (Windows XP) and it worked fine. I then made a stupid mistake, I decided to install updates. I installed 2 updates and the program locked and wouldn't work. I tried uninstalling and it didn't work correctly, so I ended up restoring the system to a time before I installed the product. I finally got it up and running but now I have no sound on several of my clips. None of my Sony camcorder clips (MPEG-2 with 5.1 Surround) have sound and I do have the 5.1 Surround button on. I have some old clips that are WMV and the sound is fine. I also have sound on the Microsoft AVI clips. THEY ALL WORKED BEFORE I HAD TO RE-INSTALL!! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've not heard of the updates causing problems - except that they will not work on a TBYB version of VS11. You state however that you have the full version.
I'm happy to hear you had a System Restore point which you were able to use to revert your system to its configuration prior to loading VS. It's always a good idea to set a fresh restore point before loading major programs.
There should be two updates for most people. The small (1.94MB) one at the top of the page is the HotFix 01, only to be applied if you have a problem installing VS11 in the first place - so it should not apply to your circumstances.
The second one, at the bottom of the page, is the 27MB Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6) which should be installed first.
After that, apply the 55MB Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack Release Date: 2007/11/8
If you still have the restore point, I would suggest you try re-installing the patches, with the 27MB one first.

At this point I would suggest a "clean uninstall." Not just using the Add/Remove programs feature. Instructions are here:

Edit: Damn! Twodogs got in there while I was foolin' around trying to find that Clean Uninstall reference. I would concur with what he says but it still might be an idea to take the computer totally back to clean and start again.

Thank you both. I like the idea of a clean install. I think I'll remove the application with Add/remove and then follows the steps in the link to make sure it's completely uninstalled. I'll reinstall with the patches and see what happens. I'll let you know.

I installed VideoStudio 11 on the computer my daughter gave me. It's duo core (don't know the speed) and has 2gb RAM. I installed the updates and it works fine. The computer has a cheap Graphics card which I may replace. When I open the "Sample" project the project was very "jerky" during playback. I imagine that is because of the Graphics card. I will probably be making simple Home Movies so it may not be an issue. I'm off to Southern California next week on a business trip so that will be my first opportunity to shoot some footage. Thanks again.
