Hello:
I'm using the trial of VS Pro 11 and enjoying it. I have a Canon HG-10 HD camcorder, which captures video in the AVCHD format.
VS captures the video when I play it from the camcorder, but the resulting video is choppy -- like it's 15 frames/sec instead of the 29.9 that's being streamed.
I'm testing this software using an admittedly low-tech converter, an Adaptec AVC-1100.
So the question is: Does VS Pro "step down" the admittedly bandwidth-heavy AVCHD video or is it more likely the low-rent analog converter?
And the followup question is: Does the direct support for AVCHD import that appears to be offered by the Plus pack (which I cannot install and have posted a question about separately) clear up this problem on its own?

It is 1000% likely to be the fact that you are using the analogue capture device. Why on earth would you use that to capture high def video?
You also don't give us your system details, but avchd is pretty resource intensive. Unless your computer is a Core 2 Duo or Quad, you will have trouble playing it back (which could also be the case given your description). But I will wait to see what out resident high def guru etech has to say...

"Why on earth...." - because that's what I have at the moment. Thanks for your patience.
I did not expect to have a problem with getting video into my computer, and when I did, all I had handy was this old device. For purposes of testing, it suits my needs.
Let me ask you, in your own words: "Why on earth" would I want to spend another $100 on a capture device before knowing that the capture device was the problem?
Are you always this cranky? Everyone's a newbie sometime.

That was hardly cranky!!
It *was* surprised! Surprised that you apparently hadn't read your camera manual and that of the accompanying Corel application disc to find out how you downloaded the video from it... And I suspect that if you did, you would find that you don't need to spend a cent -- as long as you have a computer which is up to the job of dealing with the avchd format!! As I understand it, you just need to connect the camera to your computer via the USB cord which came with the computer...

That's like test driving a Ferrari by shutting off the engine and hooking up a team of mules. (not meant to be cranky, like Ken

fdnews,
I suspect that you are going from the analog connection of your camcorder to your converter and then out via a firwire connection into the computer?
No, just looked up the specs for that unit, it captures in the VCD modes via a usb connection:
Adaptec VideOh! CD Video Converter Kit USB Device - AVC-1100

You need to run the retail version to get anything to work correctly.
Corel has a 30 day money back policy.
The trial version will work editing the VCD format on a P4 like yours no problem at all. You capture device is a custom capture device. If it's possible maybe use the software that came with the AVC-1100 to capture with and then insert/use the captured video in VS11+ trial to test it out.

It could be your capture settings are wrong and not set to the VCD specs, if you can change them for capturing then select the VCD format. So the question is: Does VS Pro "step down" the admittedly bandwidth-heavy AVCHD video or is it more likely the low-rent analog converter?
