Photoimpact Launcher stopped working...?

Post by Rik_Vargard »

Hi, forgive me if this is the wrong forum!

Well I have this problem:

When I load Photoimpact x3 , it freezes during the splash screen with the windows pop up saying :"Photoimpact Launcher stopped working", then I have to close the program or wait for it to response.

I also have photimpact 12 (I got it with my new pc back then), so I tried that one, but the same error happens !!

Anyone has an idea about what's happening?
Seems I have a serious issue whith this "Photoimpact launcher" thing!!!

Thanks a lot! :)

Welcome to the forum,

It certainly seems as if something is conflicting with it. Could you please complete your system information, found in your forum Profile?

Thanks for replying! :)

Well I completed my profile for as far as I know ... :?

Now, it worked fine untill today (bought it like a week ago I think).
Today, I clicked on "paste" while working, and bang: with no obvious reason "Photoimpact stopped functioning and will now close" (or somehing close to that, It's in french :p )

And after that, I now always have that error while loading it.

Even photoimpact12, that I used during months before x3, cannot be loaded anymore!

So I removed everything, folders, files, even regedit stuff related to ulead even restored windows on a previous date and then reinstalled it, and nothing works! Even downloaded a trial version of PI12 ... same damn thing :(

And I need it, not only because I paid money for it, but because I need photoimpact. I use it every day !!!
...
Well I really hope there's a solution for this 'cause I'm desperate!! ! :?

Sounds like you have done all the usual things, see if anything in this link helps.

Since you're running Vista (which is a genuine piece of garbage), try disabling UAC (User Account Control), and/or Aeros. I have Vista Home Premium on a laptop (gave to my wife), and there are some programs that just will not run worth a hoot on it, without disabling them.

You might also try running PI under compatibilty mode for XP, especially PI-12.

I don't know if you have installed the "Vista" patch for PI-12. If not go HERE to download and install it. I know it shouldn't have any affect on PI-13 though.

Thx for the link! I found a lot of "errors" on my pc that got "fixed" with AML free registry cleaner & PC cleaner.
But still the problem is there... :(

I downloaded the patch for PI12 (wich I registered online, of course) but it keeps saying me " Can't find PI 12 on your system or version is not supported. Make sure you installed a supported version first." :?

I disabled UAC. I ran PI with compability mode for XP...

Nothing works !!!

"Photoimpact Launcher is not/stopped responding" ... Happens at the end of the loading, like around "initializing u32jpg.fio..." or "initializing main windows and components..."

Any other ideas..... or am I at a point of reinstalling windows xp and send vista to hell?

One other thing that you might try. First undo what we have done above, ie; enable UAC. Then try Exempting PI from Data Execution Prevention.

o Exempt a program from DEP do the following:

For Vista Users
  1. Right-click on My Computer and Select Properties
  2. In the System Properties dialogue that opens click on the Advanced System Settings Link, found to the Left.
  3. Click on the Advanced Tab.
  4. Click on the Settings button.
  5. In the Performance Options dialog click on the 3rd tab, Data Execution Prevention. You will see 2 radial selections. The bottom one is used to exempt programs from DEP.
  6. Click on the Add button, a window will open that you can navigate to where the executable file for VS, MSP, PI or whatever program you're having problems with, is located. Generally this is found under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\. However you may have it installed to some other location on your system.
  7. Once you have found it, click on it to add it to the execeptions list.

I've been experiencing this exact problem for over a week - PI12 would not go past the splash screen, then showing an error 'Photoimpact has stopped working'.

Then yesterday I tried it and it worked... and discovered that my scanner cable has disconnected from the back of the machine earlier that day and so reconnecting that fixed the issue.

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit with a Canoscan LiDE scanner.

Same problem

I have the same problem, but running X3 with XP Pro. Have tried everything I can think of plus and still nothing. Reinstall will let it load but after I have it open for about 2 minutes it will do everything all over again.

I have deleated all folders and files, deleated the reg and tired what has been posted her so far but still nothing. May be an update for XP that is causing the problem and tech support should look at it as I also have paid for it and things where good until Corel took over this software.
