Microsoft AVI files
24 Bits, 320 x 240, 30 fps
Lower Field First
Uncompressed
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I think you need to read the following:
Suggested Workflow
From Camcorder to DVD

Lastnight I tried playing around with the video studio and when I tried to change the setting to AVI when capturing it keeps changing back to DV. The video seemed to stay clear for about a minute and then started skipping for the duration after that.

Actually, that is correct. You want to capture as DV-AVI. DV-AVI is compressed AVI (13 GB/hr vs. uncompressed AVI @ 60 GB/hr).

You say it is skipping. Are you dropping frames? You can turn on the Drop Frame Counter in Preferences.

Did you go to the links I provided?

Ya I checked out the links. Thanks. I'll check the dropped frames in preferences in about an hour. What would cause me to be dropping frames?

When people are dropping frames we recommend that they shut down all background apps, so nothing else on the pc is running. This also includes disconnecting from the Internet, as you can sometimes have auto updates running in the background.

Also, I don't understand why your clip properties are 320 x 240. Coming from a mini-dv cam they should be 720 x 480.

Make sure that in Preferences you select Show Message When Inserting First Video Clip Into The Timeline. That way your project properties can be matched to your clip properties.

I turned on the dropped frame counter and after the first 45 seconds of capturing, I started to drop a lot of frames. I shut down the internet and any other programs that were running and it still drops a lot of frames (About 100 Frames dropped in 20 seconds)

Have you followed Black Labs advice?
Before the dropped frames occurred?

Yes, I followed Black Labs advice. I used the suggested workflow and made sure everything else was off before beginning to capture. When I first begin to capture video everything goes fine, no dropped frames, no problem but after the first 45 seconds to minute of capturing, I start to drop frames like crazy. Its not even worth trying to capture the videos because the audio comes out terrible!!

What services did you leave running?

Where your clip properties still 320x240?

Did you get any message when you dropped this new clip on the timeline?

What happens if you capture with Movie maker, already installed on your pc?
Make sure you select dv.avi though as wmv is the default.

I didn't leave any services running except the Ulead

My clip properties are 740x480

When I capture with movie maker it does the same thing

When I play the video from my camcorder to the computer it works fine, doesn't skip but as soon as I start to capture it drops 100 frames in 25 seconds.

Since it is doing the same thing with WMM you could have faulty firewire card or cable.

But how would it work to just play it on the computer without capturing?

When I hook up the camera and hit play, it plays through the ulead program. When I try to start capturing the video it drops frames like a S.O.B.!!!!!
