Problem transferring video from camcorder.

Post by breeder44 »

Hi guys, I'm new here and this is my first post. I've been using the Ulead video editing system to transfer video from my camcorder (Panasonic Mini DV) and the Ulead program has worked well until recently. I have been having a problem while trying to record my videos to my computer. It seems like it is skipping a lot and the audio turns out absolutely brutal. When I just play the video from the camcorder to the computer it works fine but when I start to record it starts skipping. Any help would be great! Thanks,

Jason

Describe your problem: Described above

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?): DV camcorder, file size is 2 GB

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: DV Camcorder, fire wire

Project Properties (important): ??

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD):

PAL or NTSC: ??

Error Codes (if any): None

Product Version: VS10

It worked fine and now it doesn't. There is about 56GB of free Hard Drive space on my computer which is more than enough for what I am trying to do. My window program is Windows XP. Any ideas of what to try would be great.

Doesn't really help us, we need to know what format you captured in.

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: DV Camcorder, fire wire

Project Properties (important): ??

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): ??????????

PAL or NTSC: ?? We need to know this, as well as whether you have a PAL or NTSC camcorder.

Error Codes (if any): None

Product Version: VS10

It worked fine and now it doesn't.

Is it? We don't know what you are trying to do, it may not be!!

Answering the questions put is the next thing to do, we really can't help without this info. Along with, your computer specs. A 500gb hdd with only 56gb free is getting too full to work properly with such large files as dv.avi, which you may nor may not be using, a 60gb hdd with 56 gb free should work fine if you are trying to capture up to an hour of mini dv tape as a dv.avi file. But then, it could be that you have an ide drive and it is set to pio and not dma.

If you are unsure of how to find the info asked for, it is polite to say I'm sorry I don't know that, how do I find out.
This will result in a reply giving you info so that you can tell us what we need to know.
I'm afraid putting ?? next to project properties will make most people just pass on by to the next question where they can help out with more ease.

Ok, I don't know where to find the info that I did not put in the blanks. Has anyone had the same problem as me and found a way to fix it? I really didn't realize that I was going to have to know all that computer info. Help would be awesome!!!! I captured with the DV.AVI. That's what it always captures as when I hook up the camera. The video I'm trying to get on the computer is only about 2 minutes long.

Since you capture to DV, we know that you're not using a highly compressed file format. We also know that the Field Order must be Lower Field First.

So if you can get a captured clip into the Library or Time Line, right-click on it, and from the menu choose Properties. The Properties dialog will pop up providing that information. Copy them down here.

Next pressing the ALT + ENTER keys on your keyboard, or going to the file menu, and selecting Project Properties will provide the information needed for determining what your Project settings are. Please copy that information back here.

Now what do you want to do with your video once you succeed in editing? Your target result is , burn a DVD, create a video to be viewed on your PC, upload your video to the internet, or create a video to be viewed on a Pocket PC, or something else? This information would govern your Output Format..

So what has changed on your computer?
Have you installed or removed any software or hardware.
Has the computer had a sudden loss of power such as a power cut.
Is there a problem with your hard drive(s) - Windows Start | Run - chkdsk

I will post the properties tonight when I get home from work. My goal after capturing the video properly is to burn it to a DVD and also put it on the internet. A problem I first encountered when I began to use the ULead system was a low hard drive space problem. I deleted many videos and pictures from my computer and also uninstalled and then reinstalled the ULead program. Thanks for your help guys. I will get the other info on ASAP.

You might be trying to capture uncompressed video -- which will be huge, and you might experience dropped frames (if your computer isn't up to the task).

Make sure you are capturing DV .AVI (not just .avi uncompressed). Also confirm that you are connecting a firewire cable from camcorder to computer.

George

I have checked the cables a few times to make sure everything is hooked in properly. How exactly would I find out if i'm using DV.AVI and not AVI uncompressed?

Are the properties you posted above from one of the captured clips, or is it a clip you generated after editing :?:

Playing back uncompressed video requires fast equipment too...

The clip I got the properties from is one of the clips I captured. The equipment I have should be fast enough because I already had it working when I first bought the package? It puzzles the heck out of me.

So if the video you captured is uncompressed, you might be experiencing dropped frames during the capture.

When it first worked, you were probably capturing DV .avi (like a file transfer -- less stress on the computer).

Check your capture settings again to ensure you have selected DV .avi captures...

George
