Preview window only plays sound, but no image

Hello,

I used to run VS11 on a WinXP laptop, and everything was fine. Recently my old computer broke down so I bought a new laptop running Win Vista. There are now two problems:

1) Towards the end of the installation process of VS11, the setup program just hangs for 2 hours. Eventually I had to kill the process using Task Manager. But the program appeared to be installed fine and started running ok.

2) However, the problem happens when I preview the mpeg files obtained from my camcorder. These mpeg files used to preview just fine in my old laptop running XP. Now the preview window only plays sound, but no image. The strange thing is that if I press 'pause', the still image is displayed just fine. Also, if I first select 'Auto Color Adjust' then I can preview the entire mpeg file fine with both sound and image.

Any idea what I'm missing? Thank you very much!

Peter

Have you installed all the updates?

Hi

1) Vs might appear to work properly but to me it's better to install it again properly. I installed mine by right clicking on the exe file and installing as administrator. In vista the account you use is not full administrator.

2) To me this is classic Nvidia graohics card config problem. But I can only assume you have an Nvidia video card but I'm not where you are so I'll have to wait for your reply on this.

It would help if you completed your system spec.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions.

1) I tried re-installing by running as administrator, but VS11 still hangs towards the end of the installation, and I had to kill the process.
Btw, I couldn't even un-install VS11 from Control Panel (VS11 doesn't appear in the uninstall program list). I had to delete the c:\program files\Ulead System folder, then re-install as administrator. Is there any better way?
2) Unfortunately the problem with no image at preview window still persists.

My system configuration:
ThinkPad R61i
Intel Core2 Duo T5250 1.50GHz
2006MB Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (GMA X3100)

Do you need any other system information?

Thanks again,

Peter

I have the same issue

I cannot view mpeg captured files in "clip" mode which makes it rather hard to edit them!

I can view AVI files in "clip" mode but only if I tick the "show DV timecode in preview window" option in preferences!!

I am using VideoStudio 10

Even DirectX 10 has been updated a few times...you will need the latest one

To further clarify, DirectX itself is sometimes updated, without the actual version number changing. So the v10 that you have may not be the most current version. No harm in downloading the latest, just to be sure.

Windows update says I am up to date...

this is a real pain - makes it impossible to edit stuff!!

DirectX is not a Windows automatic update. It must be done manually.
