I have used every version of Videostudio, but never had this problem before. Mp3 nor Flash files will play in VS11+ and VS10+. I have dealt with the flash issue before by rolling back to an earlier version. Wave files and my smartsound library will preview fine, but mp3 does nothing. Mp3 files will, however, play if I add them to the timeline and preview the entire project. I cannot prevew the mp3 'clip' from the timeline or library. I know certain types of mp3's are incompatible, but these are older ones that worked before. To help try and diagnose the issue I opened VS9 and both mp3 and flash files play and preview fine. Both VS11+ and 10+ are fully updated and I cannot distinguish why 9 works. Anyone have any ideas?
Now what I have discovered is that though I can preview the smartsound clips, if I add them to my project, they won't work. Wave files seem to work fine in preview and project. Still waiting on help!

I assume that when you state that you cannot preview MP3 sound files you are opening the folder (Open Audio File) which contains the files, selecting (click on) a file then click on the 'PLAY' icon (at the bottom of the window).
When I do do that I notice something strange -
If I select a short MP3 file it 'plays' almost immediately however if I select a LARGE MP3 file (4-5MB) it can take up to 10 seconds before it starts to play.
Have you tried waiting (for 10 seconds or more) after you click on the 'play' icon?

Hi
Have you installed Quick Time
Extract from the Read Me file on VS disc.
• QuickTime 7.03 - The video format from Apple for creating and playing back movie files such as MOV and QT file formats. You should install QuickTime 7.03 or above to be able to use the Auto Music function (i.e., SmartSound QuickTracks®) in Ulead VideoStudio. For more information on Apple QuickTime, visit their web site at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

And VS sometimes has trouble with MP3s. Converting them to wav files usually is the fix.
