Help with school project

Post by lisak93445 »

I'm trying to record onto a dvd my daughters school video project (captured from analog, edited, etc and saved as an mpeg) I've downloaded a trial version of Ulead DVD movie factory. I got the video imputed, and the playback is fine. When I go to burn the dvd, it goes nearly the entire process, then I get a "failure to burn" error (dvd=r=spt1-2a-02-04-91-c2) - the dvd is now unuseable and my daughters project is due today! I have the file saved now as an mpeg, a wmv, and god knows how many other ways. I can burn a cd which will play fine on the computer, but I need a cd or dvd that can be played on a dvd player at school. Any ideas for me? I'm completely clueless with a lot of tech stuff. Thanks!

What kind of english teacher requires students to make, edit and produce a 15 minute movie - then not have a computer hooked up to their overhead anyway???

Don't know anything about that specific error. Burning errors could be a lot of things including a bad DVD, try another one. If your using cheap media the failure rate can be as high as 50%. Even the best media has an occasional coaster or two.

Just tried again (for the 5th time now - failure rate so far is 100%) I got a different error message this time. Now I'm trying saving to folder (read that somewhere here) - is there another burning program out there that I can try? As for cheap media - don't know. The dvd's say "staples" on them 4.7GB 2 hours video and RW dvd-r and dvd+r up to 8x compatible.
Hate to go and spend a bunch of $$ on a one time school project ..... already been through at least 20 cds and 5 dvds...... WOuldnt mind putting the video on a cd but so far no luck with playback (audio error)

You could try creating the dvd in a folder on your hard drive and then using a different program, something like roxio ez cd creator, nero burning rom or recordnow to burn the actual DVD. Did one of those programs come with your system?

Hope that helps.

Recordnow came with the system (hp pavillion of some sort) I'm on a different system in the same room and during the saving to folder I'm now at a black screen - hope it's still working under whatever's going on. In looking at record now earlier, there doesn't seem to be an option to record video, just audio. I may try dowloading nero if the danged computer unlocks itself and the saving worked! Thanks for your help. I'm going to start thinking of evil things to do to the english teacher.......

Try klowther's suggestion, if there's a selection for create ISO file do that. Open up the software that came with your burner such as NERO, Roxio etc and from the file menu select burn from image or ISO.

Set the burn rate at 2x.

When it comes to DVD media there's the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.... Staples probably falls into the ugly category but a 100% failure will point to another problem.

I give up

Post by lisak93445 »

Thanks for all your help. I think I've officially given up. I saved the movie to a folder and sonic record now won't read the files, or burn it on a dvd - gets to about 98% done, then ejects the disc as unable to copy the file. I tried an attempt as a VCD instead of a DVD which worked, however, what it recorded was a loop of record now music and a tiny little picture of the first frame of the video - no good. I'm going to try Ulead movie factory 2 one more time and then I'm throwing in the towel and hope that my daughter's teacher doesn't fail her and her group over not being able to record a DVD. (VHS isn't an option either since my camera is analog). If anyone thinks of anything I haven't tried, let me know. I don't think I have a future in video productions.....

I don't really know what that is - however, I just managed to create a VCD that plays on the dvd player - video is crap, audio isn't much better, but there ya go. Thanks for your all your help again and have a great day!

It's possible that the writer itself is at fault. Try creating a data disk and see if it completes the writing process. (try using a rewritable disk for your test, you won't be creating unusable coasters).
