Runtime error closes Video Studio
Hi,

There may be someting "wrong" with your video files, or for some reason Video Studio is having trouble with the particular format.
I don't know much about FLV, but WMV and all of the other highly-compressed formats tend to cause a lot of trouble when you try to edit or convert them*. So, try converting the file to AVI/DV, or maybe MPEG-2. If the it's the original FLV file is causing Video Studio to choke, you can probably convert it with a 3rd-party program like SUPER (FREE!!!).
* These formats are fine for playback, if you compress from a less-compressed format as a final-step after all editing is done.
You have already converted them? Or, does Video Studio crash when trying to convert them? It's clips I downloaded from Youtube and encoded from flv to wmv. I'd appreciate your help

AVI is not a single format. It's a "wrapper" or "container" format that can contain video in any compression-format. AVI/DV is a special case. It requires 13GB per hour of video, and it usually cames from a MiniDV camera. This is the ideal format for editing.
The 2nd best choice for editing is MPEG-2. But, it too can sometimes be trouble. (It doesn't cause problems for everybody, but I had to buy a special-purpose MPEG editor.)
SUPER can probably convert it to MPEG-2 and it might be able to convert it to AVI/DV, but the DV options don't seem quite right... at least for NTSC DV video.
What final format do you want for your project? Is it going back to YouTube, or to a DVD, or what?
There are lots of options with SUPER. If you are making a DVD, you can get the "correct" framerate, resolution, and bitrate from one of the Video Studio project templates.
...This project may take lots of experimentation with several different programs & utilities. And, I know you are running out of time... These highly-compressed formats are a just pain to work with. Even if you find someting that works with one WMV file, you might run-into different problems if you get another WMV file for another source. The same is true with DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, etc...

This is only a suggestion. I don't know if it will work for you.
I have received these types of messages before. I have found that if I reinstall the update (yes I know there are two of them to bring you up to 11.5+), then the error goes away.
No, you do not have to reinstall the whole program; only run the .exe file that does the update. Takes only about 25 seconds on my machine and does not even require a reboot.
I am assuming that you are using 11.5+ version. If reinstalling one update doesn't do it then run both updates. I keep both files in a directory and just recall them when needed for fixing these annoying shut down errors.
Hope that helps

With great respect to my great and good friend DVDDoug, there is little point in converting to DV/AVI in your situation. First, you are using .FLV from YouTube, which in my opinion is inevitably atrocious quality at best. Doug is certainly correct in saying formats like FLV and WMV are very difficult to edit.
But if you are wanting to produce a DVD, so there is little point in converting the FLV to any format other than DVD-compatible mpeg-2. That will often have its difficulties in editing as well. But at least, by confining it to just one conversion (FLV > mpeg-2) rather than two (FLV to largely uncompressed DV to more compressed mpeg-2) you are minimising the inevitable (and I mean inevitable) loss of quality involved in such a conversion.
But be warned: atrocious in means atrocious out. Don't expect much of the final quality of your DVD...

Thanks
The quality of this particular project isn't so important as long as the subtitles are readable. I just want to show my fellow students a few Hamas propaganda videos.
Now I hope the saving process will finish as I'm still trying to save the current WMV-based project as an MPEG-2 since I deleted most original flv files and CRAP while writing this, it errored on me again
So should I get the FLV files again and encode them to MPEG-2 directly without going via WMV?
Btw, the finished WMV file plays, but can't be rewinded/fast-forwarded. There is no such bar because of that error. Would it still play on DVD, if let play continuosly?

I've tried Orbit in the past had didn't have very good luck with it. Do you use FireFox? If so they have an add-on extension called Cache Viewer. I can use it to find the FLV file downloaded to my PC when viewing YouTube videos.
I then used Super to convert it to MPEG video file.
