videostudio 11 trial works but not my version 9

Hi, I have a copy of videostudio 9 se. It always used to work as did my copy of movie factory 4 se on the same pc. Though I did uninstall them for a while. Now I have recently tried to reinstall them and they install but when they both try to capture from the same new dv camcorder via firewire it says failed to build preview graph and I can not see the image on the pc from the cam.
I have since dloaded version 11 as a trial and it works fine. But I see no reason to buy it as it is esentially the same as what I have and version 9 used to work fine. I have vista business (for no other reason than it was bundled with the machine) a 2ghz processor, 2gbs of ram,20gbs of free hdd space etc etc.The machine will deal with it but both versions as above just wont run any more. can any one help?

Bingo! There was a Vista update for VS10, but VS9 was not designed for Vista.

...try to capture from the same new dv camcorder via firewire...

There are other "capture" programs, if this turns-out to be the only problem. There is a popular freeware capture program, but I can't think of it at the moment...

P.S. WinDV. But, I don't know if it works with Vista either. It's also older than Vista, so you'll have to try it or look for something else.

WinDV definitely does work with Vista. I have it installed on two computers both running Vista Ultimate...
