distortions with titles when smart rendering
after numerous problems with quality and audio with smart render enabled (which i thought were fixed until i made a 45 minute dvd)
i have also noticed that when i add titles to my videos when they are played back through my tv the titles are distorted this only occurs when smart render is enabled
my camcorder is a hdd dcr sr52
my files are mpeg2 (yes i know have read all the threads)
i have all the right file settings and field frames
any help please (again)

If you've read all the threads then I suppose you read the rather lengthy one that details your exact problem. And I suppose you also read in that thread that there is not much you can do about it with VS, unfortunately.

yes i did read most of it apart from the really technical stuff
was hoping maybe somebody had come up with an answer in the meantime!
do you have any ideas regarding the audio out of sync at all
have had some great advice from 2 other members which actually improve it but with longer videos it is bad especially at the end

Audio / Video synchronization issues
Hi Sue,
regarding the audio oos, it seems like you are faced with two options - to use Smart Render, with the consequent audio problems, or to disable smart render, with the downside being a visible deterioration in picture quality.
If you have tried all the suggestions regarding minimising other USB device usage whilst importing video, and shooting longer clips - and still get the audio oos problem, you might have to consider the split audio file approach.
Since you reported the audio file to be shorter than the rendered video file, you might have to cut the audio file into several parts and equalise the length. It could be a somewhat fiddly and sort of a trial and error sort of process, but could enable you to use Smart Render, thereby maximising the image quality, whilst also more or less resolving the audio problem.
It ain't pretty, but it could work.
Audio oos is one of those things that you can easily sense when watching a video, but it's hard to estimate the amount of correction you need to apply.
I also feel that the editing problem would not necessarily be unique to VS - there is probably something about the mpeg2 files from the camcorder that make them difficult to edit.
I'd love to be able to have a go at editing the files myself, but short of you posting the files on a torrent site, I can't see how that could happen. Local stores display similar cameras but without their docking stations, so there's no chance of importing video from one.

Fix for Out of Synch Audio/Video
Fix for Out of Synch Audio/Video
Does anyone know if these Mpeg2 camcorders have a "Fast Record Mode" or "Instant ON". I know on my dvd recorders and my Sony HDV cam I can put them into a mode where it will record fast without losing any video information. But there is are pitfalls recording in this mode.
The Sony book for my HDV cam says:
"Quick Record = ON (Q Rec)" Select this so you will not miss any time from the click of the shutter. IF Quick Record is set to ON, the interval between scences freezes for a moment and editing on your computer is recommended".
My dvd recorder also has these features and it also states you have to edit the mpeg files on a computer to fix them.
What's hard is finding which clip has the corruption.
Sometimes the clip with the corruption will also display a different video bit rate.
But I think one or some of the clips are corrupted which was the reason smartrender on or off wasn't working correctly. The real giveaway is rendering to a new file with smart render off. This shouldn't happen with compliant files.
Sue, please check your manual to see if this feature is available or any reference to it. Maybe it's activated which would explain why the small mpeg files may be or are corrupted.

Yes, I think that maybe the clips being very small in length that they may have some corruption in them.Since you reported the audio file to be shorter than the rendered video file,

in reply to have i checked for a fast record button on camcorder
yes i have and there is not one
i have used various different files to add to my projects not the same ones with no difference
have done as advised regarding minimising other usb device usage
no difference
i then put some original unrendered clips into my timeline ( approx 35 clips) they are all very small as you can tell
i then made one long clip enabling smart render
my preview screen stayed black
audio was in sync
i then did the same again with a new project and original clips and added titles nothing else
i again made a long clip enabling smart render
my preview screen shows slow motion whe rendering the titles and it freezes where no titles are then again slow motion at next title insertion
result was audio out of sync
i then added my long out of sync file in a new project followed the instructions given i split the audio and changed the rate to one second more
i then tried to smart render my project again with same as project settings and it was obviously rendering the whole file as preview window was all in slow motion
i can avoid the audio out of sync if i disable smart render at the begining of any new project which is what i was doing previously but my picture quality at the end if very poor even with compression changed to 100%
this is why i am trying to find a way to use smart render and keep my audio in sync
dont know if this means anything either but when i play my video files back with windows media player i have no sound
i am surprised my computer has not blown up!!!!
please any help now

many thanks for everybodys help trying to sort out my problem
just to update i used another well know program for editing my files and ended up with audio in sync and perfct picture
the only way i can get this with vs11+ is to to run my clips through a seperate special mpeg program and use a function called quickstream fix i then load the finished file into vs11 edit using the smart render and end up with audio in sync and perfect picture seems the only answer if i want to continue to use vs11
again thankyou for all your time and effort
