VideoStudio 6 SE making DVD Chapters from captured VHS

Post by gkoz »

Hi,

I'm capturing VHS using VideoStudio 6 SE and DAC 100 external capture device via firewire then burning to DVD.

Problem: the VHS captures fine and it burns fine onto a DVD but there are no chapters. I have to use the fast forward button to get to the part I want when I play it on a standalone DVD player

How can I make DVD chapters?

Thanks for any advice.

It probably will need to be done manually.

UVS can create chapters when it detects a break in the timecode of DV streams, or when it encounters scenes in MPEG files. In both cases the program or device that creates the streams/files is responsible for recording this information accurately, and if you capture analog video through an analog-to-digital converter, this isn't the case -- the entire capture will be received with a continuous timecode.

UVS can also analyze the frame contents and create chapters based on inter-frame differences, but this tends to create way too many chapters even if you tune the sensitivity. I'm also not sure if this feature existed in UVS 6.

In Version 6 after you have clicked on "Finish >> Create DVD" and the new "Ulead DVD plug-in - Start" dialogue box appears make sure that down towards the bottom left corner there is a tick in the box next to "Create Scene Selection Menu" then when you click on "Next" you will be taken to a screen that allows you to play through your video - stop at any point and "ADD" a thumbnail to your 'scenes' list - these 'scenes' are your chapter selection points and appear in your DVD menu for selection of the chapters (or scenes).
