Movie Factory 6 crashes comp when burning DVD
When burning a DVD Movie Factory shuts down my computer when it's a little over 25% done, it gives no error message, it just crashes my comp. I've downloaded the updates and installed them, but that didn't fix the problem. I have no idea what's causing this, any help is greatly appreciated.
How is it shutting down? Like someone is pulling the power cord?
There's a difference between the computer shutting down and rebooting.
If the computer is shutting down check for heat buildup. Intel processors signal the power supply to shutdown and turn off when the processor gets to hot.
Sometimes you have to pull the plug in and out on the computer to reset the power supply.
Only a guess but when video/audio apps are encoding they are making the cpu work harder. If the fan on the cpu is clogged has also been known to do this.
If you do try to clean the computer don't use compressed air unless it's the type approved for it. Blowing air across the electronic components of a MotherBoard can cause static electricity which can damage the electronics.

It's not a per supply issue, and I've downloaded the updates/patches, that's the first thing I did.
It does shut down the comp like the plug has been pulled though, sorry I wasn't clear about that.
I'm relatively sure it's a codec issue having to do with DivX. When I run a codec detective program it tells me DivX 5.1.1 codec driver was not found and says it was likely uninstalled properly. Anyone using DivX knows they're up to like 6.8, which IS installed on my computer. And the problem began shortly after updating my DivX AFTER installing DVD Movie Factory. BUT, uninstalling and re-installing does not fix the issue, and I can't find DivX 5.1.1 anywhere.
Like I said, any help is appreciated, thanks!

Taking for granted your using XP, I think your previously posted that information in another thread.
VS11+ may have Divx 5.1 codecs installed in it's root directory.
If you already have a later version of Divx on your computer go into the VS11+ executable directory & search on " *divx*.*
You will see templates, don't worry about them.
Rename any files that are *divx*.* to another name, what you are looking for are the DLL's. I usually add on to the existing filename for example: DivXul.dll to DivXul.dll.Original
VS11+ will not use this divx codec and will use the divx codec installed on your system.
Also make sure for VS11+ to download and install the DirectX 9.0C update dated November 2007. This is important to be running the latest updated version of DirectX..
I'm using the latest distribution of Divx and it's working with VS11+ if that helps.
Also, check to see if you have other installed codec packages that can interfere with your existing software such as the "OneInAll codec fix package" or something similar.
Windows usually works great if we install one video/audio application, as soon as we install more than one we become babysitters.
I wonder if windows will ever catch up to Mac's or Linux on the stability side.
Oh that's right, it's called Vista (actually not that bad for me so far, guess I'm the lucky one!)

Sorry guys, I updated my system info so you can view what I'm running now. And yes, I'm running XP, and the only codec pack I have installed is the Divx pack. I'm not using VS11, but Movie Factory 6, but I assume the gist of the idea is the same, find the file, rename it and MF6 will no longer use it? Crossing my fingers...

Okay, when I rename the .dll file I get an "Unspecified Error" message when trying to burn. Any other suggestions?
I've tried using Intervideo DVD Copy, and I get the same result, however the Roxio program (I forget the name, sorry) worked, but the quality was absolutely terrible.
I'd like to avoid having to wipe out the hard drive and starting over just to get Ulead to work.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer!
