welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you're having problems. It's hard to know what might be causing the problem from what little information you have supplied, but I would suggest the following:
1) apply all updates and patches to VS8 from the Corel/Ulead site.
2) update to the latest DirectX
Latest DirectX
3) Try using the "suggested workflow". This breaks down the DVD creation process into separate steps, and can fix problems such as you describe.
Suggested Workflow
You might try output to DVD folders too, from the "Create Disc" module, which you can first play on your pc with a software DVD player, eg WinDVD which might come with your VS, before burning to a disc using a program such as Nero etc.
