There are a few reasons why some products are no longer being developed.
1. Ulead merged with Intervideo. With any merger there are casualties.
2. Intervideo-Ulead merged with Corel. More casualties.
3. Microsoft released Vista. Their new operating system has hit the entire world of software from games to Video Editing. From Word processing to music. Everyone with a computer has been affected.
Alternative Corel software for creating slide shows includes
VideoStudio
DVD MovieFactory
MediaOne
MediaStudio
DVD Workshop
Win DVD Creator

Hi Rick,
As Steve has pointed out, there are quite a few Corel products that offer DVD slide show capabilities. If slide shows are your primary interest my personal suggestion would be Corel's "DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus" for several reasons.
1) Like DVDPS4, it retains a somewhat familiar slide show interface that allows users to easily create high quality DVD presentations with a minimal learning curve.
2) It offers many advanced capabilities that enable users to customize and take their presentations to a higher level if and when they are ready.
3) It includes a wide variety of additional audio/video utilities that are useful for slide show creation and other A/V projects that exceed the scope of DVDPS4.
4) It is fully compatible with current and emerging technologies such as Wide Screen aspect ratio, Blu-ray disc, HD digital video editing, and of course Windows Vista.
Full details are available here:

Hope that helps

Say it aint so! This product is being phased out!? But I love it! Wah, wah!
Ok. I'm done crying. This does suck, though. I bought the Ulead product because of how highly it was rated and I have not been disappointed. I would have liked some more themes and more control over audio fade in/out but all in all, I rely on this software for some projects I do for non-profits.
So, Mike (or anyone in the know) - I read what you wrote about DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus. Until I get a chance to try a trial version, I have a single question: can it do everything that PS4 can do? I would be making photo slideshows set to the music of my choice and would not really be interested in the movie aspects at the start. As long as I know I can use a similar product that allows me to do what I'm doing now, I'm ok with that.

I've never formally compared them feature for feature but for practical purposes the short answer is "yes". Having said that, I'd definitely recommend experimenting with DVDMF6+ (trial version) to make sure you're fully satisfied with it's capabilities and comfortable with the interface. Also, be aware that MovieFactory cannot import DVDPS project files. You don't need to remove DVDPS prior to installing DVDMF6+. If you opt to go with MovieFactory, keep in mind that the menu templates from DVDPS4 can be manually transferred MovieFactory. Obviously you'd have to copy and save these files prior to uninstalling DVDPS. This way you'll have the majority of your content from DVDPS4 plus the new content included with the registered version of DVDMF6+.
