Private Message Servicce

Post by Ken Berry »

Can anyone here tell me how the Board's private message service is supposed to operate? I have just found that 4 messages I had tried sending to members of the Board, going back to 3 April -- notably THoff and the coalman -- are still sitting in my Outbox. Earlier messages appear in the Sent Messages Box.

I had thought just pressing the send button would deliver them, but obviously I have not properly understood the process.

The message service has worked for me - it seems that when you "send" a message, it appears in your outbox. When the recipient logs on, they will (if they are observant) see that they "have new messages". They can then go to the message area and click on the message - like on the main board. When this happens the message moves from your outbox to the "sent messages" box.
So I guess people haven't been checking their mail..

Yep thats the way it's always worked for me - on this and other phpbb boards. The message stays in the outbox until the person you sent it to opens it - then it moves to the Sent box - if it's still in your outbox they havent read it !!

If your referring to the one you just sent today or yesterday I got it Ken, just haven't had time to reply yet. It should be in your sentbox. Once you send a message it goes into your outbox. Once the recipient views the message it should be placed in the sent messages box.

Thanks for that -- and for the replies direct from THoff and the coalman. I just didn't realise what the exact procedure was. That means that three other people who sent me messages since 3 April, and to whom I have replied (Promptly), have not checked their messages! I don't mind, mind you...

If they have a pop up blocker the notification will be blocked and if they don't allow it may just thinkit's another pop up. Not many people are going to notice the samll message icon on the top. That's why it blinks on my forum. :D

I actually receive a separate e-mail message to my designated e-mail address, which tells me a message is there.

Well there's that too, those settings can be changed in your profile.
