Overlay tracks going off tv screen horizontally

Using VS11plus I have a still image on overlay track1 and video on overlay track 2. I have the project set to 16:9 mode.
Everthing is wel within the boundary when playing back the project, also after the project is rendered in NTSC DVD 16:9 mode.
but when I go to playback on my widescreen lcd tv both sides left and right side are cutting off part of my project. I have a still image on the left side and a video on the right side. but vertically it is all ok.

I have moved the project towards the middle 3 times, right now it is well within the white boundary, but when played back it is cutting off the same amount no matter if I have it close to the boundary or far away.

I have also tried burning the disc in DVD Movie factory 6,
I have also checked and changed the safe mode in "advanced" tab all the way from 0 to 30, this has absolutely no effect on it.

It was my dvd player causing this problem.
