Sketching over a video

Post by ncds44 »

Hi,

I need the capability of drawing arrows, circles and other freehand symbols over a video clip, to emphasize things (e.g. a location on a map) and similar animations. Do you know how to do this in VideoStudio or otherwise what software is capable of this.

I thought of drawing it in Powerpoint and then converting to video somehow and overlaying as semi transparent over the existing video but its difficult to know where to draw without superimposing it over the actual video.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums,

There are a few Rotoscope programs available. Ulead offers one with it's Video Graphics Lab, called Video Paint. Video Graphics Lab also includes a vector program called CG Infinity. You can download it HERE.

Corel also has Painter X, which is capable of painting on video. However it is quite pricey.

What several of us will do is create a an "Indiana Jones" style map. Have a look at at this thread... http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5174#25174

How about doing (for instance a Google) search for the sort of image you want and then import them into VS then use them as an overlay and reposition?resize them as needed....Ken

You can certainly use many common graphics editing programs, such as Corel's own Paint Shop Pro, to draw such shapes on a transparent background, and use them in the overlay track. Obviously only works for static scenes.
