I have recently purchased and upgraded to Vidoestudio 11 plus. I am having problems when playing saved media files through windows media player version 11. There is sound but no video display. This problem has only just occured when I installed Videostudio 11. I have had 4 previous versions of Videostudio and never had this problem.
I have a Hitachi DVD HDD camera and do all of my editing through Videostudio. When I import into Videostudio it always saved it as a file that could be played through windows media player.
I have installed Win DVD 8 but have found the quality of video poor when played back on my computer.
Can anyone help with playing files via windows media player.
Thankyou
Videostudio 11 not playing files in windows media player

They have always been saved as an mpg file. I have a lot of files saved dating back several years which now cannot be viewed via WMP.
When I open a file in WMP and look at the properties it says that both the video and audio codec is InterVideo Video or Audio Decoder, which is the reason i am assuming the files cannot be read via WMP. I can read these files via Win DVD 8 but prefer WMP.
I have installed the InterVideo DVD X Pack because I thought this would install the correct codecs for WMP to play these files......

But WMP ver 11 is fairly recent, so you would have been using an earlier version of WMP with some of your previous versions of VS.Darren wrote:I have recently purchased and upgraded to Vidoestudio 11 plus. I thought that video from hard disc camcorders was merely transferred to the pc, usually with a USB connection, using something like My Computer, or Windows Explorer, or perhaps software supplied with the camcorder.Darren wrote:I have a Hitachi DVD HDD camera and do all of my editing through Videostudio. How exactly did you transfer the video files onto your pc?
I'm a bit surprised at that. WinDVD 8 is the latest, all singing and dancing player, and has all manner of fancy internal workings to give the best picture quality. Have you tried running Windows Task Manager, in its Performance tab to see what's going on with your cpu during this poor quality playback?Darren wrote:I have installed Win DVD 8 but have found the quality of video poor when played back on my computer.
It does sound like a codec issue. It's annoying that programs aren't better written so as to give a clear indication of what's missing. I've never had much luck going online to search for the required component - in my experiance, you tend to be directed to catch-all commercial sites.Darren wrote:Can anyone help with playing files via windows media player.
Personally, I prefer to use Media Player Classic, a very compact freeware media player. It's not so great for playing DVD's, but is just the thing for individual video clips.
Download Media Player Classic
You might try installing ffdshow, a freeware open-source codec pack, not to be confused with the klite pack. It's simple to install, and also uninstalls cleanly too if necessary.
Download ffdshow

Yes I have been using previous versions of WMP to view my saved mpg files transferred from my camcorder and this is done via a USB connection. I transfer my files from my Hitachi camcorder via USB connection using the capture tab in my latest version of VideoStudio 11.5 Plus. I select the import files tab and it imports from the camcorder to a file location on my PC and is svaed automatically as an mpg file, which could always be viewed via WMP. If I am doing a VS project i simply import the mpg files and do my workings etc... I have tried your suggestions but still no luck. Thank you for your input, I will keep my eyes and ears open for a solution, but in the meantime I think I will just have to view these files via Win DVD8..... Thank you....

There is a Windows utility called "WindowsXP video decoder check up" available from Microsoft.
It can tell what compatible MPEG2 decoders you have on the computer and allow you to associate one with WMP.
Quite possibly the codec you were using has become unregistered with WMP for god only knows what reason.
It's worth a try to find it and give it a run.
