RAW files

Post by stompinne »

Hi, as i'm a dj for weddingparties, i want to work with a projector & screen, to add additional services.
So now i could show pics of the couple, shot in the afternoon, during the evening/dinner at a screen.
jpeg's no problem....but i now nothing actually about .raw-files.
Isn't so that many professional pics shot by a professional, are saved on his memorycard, as raw-files?
My goal is to put the rawfiles in my computer at location and convert them with photoimpact in jpeg, so i can show them at the screen.
Is there someone who can send me a rawfile, so i can try it out with photo-impact, or does someone know where i can download rawfiles from the net? So i could try it out?

tnx

Which version of PI will you be using? One more thing, a RAW file, another RAW file and yet another RAW file are actually three different things. RAW in itself doesn't mean anything but that the file (photo) has not been processed in the camera. If you have a viewer which can show your particular RAW file, these usually look darker and dull compared to a jpg shot with the same camera and settings. The main differences are the lack of compression and the color depth of up to 48 bit RGB, 16 bit for each channel. A jpg image can only hold 8 bits per channel.

Every camera has a different RAW format. Even cameras from the same maker vary in RAW format from one model to the other. PI can use most RAW formats but there are a few which it has problems with.

tnx Heinz for reply, i will install a allround batch-converter for raw files, guess this will be a better solution.
