3d text help for PI 12 please

Post by daddio »

I recently re-installed PI 12 after a re-format. I used to be able to select 'text' and then select 3d and then do my thing. Or else I would do it as 2d but afterward make it a selection and then just do the 3d thing from the 'text attributes' menu. Now, 3d is not offered as a selection (area is grayed out and not clickable) when I go into text mode, and if I make the text a selection (it is still a 'path') the 3d effects will not apply to it. I have no idea how to get it back to working as it had. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Faulty installation maybe? Try reinstalling it after removing it completely. Disconnect from the internet and switch off your virus scanner and anti malware protection for the installation.

Actually, I realized that the problem was that I was adding text to a greyscale image. When I changed its' attributes to full color RGB, everything worked well. The question, then, is this - How can I add a new, transparent raster layer over the one I'm working on, and if I can, how can I make it an RGB layer? Can I do that? Or do I always have to change the greyscale to full color th get the proper 3d text? Thanks.

Your image can either be grey scale or full color, it can't be both.

I know that, but I guess what I was asking was is it possible to add additional layers (not duplicates) over the base image? In PSP you can add as many new raster or vector layers as you want. Can that be done with PI?

With PI, an Object is considered a Layer. You need to create another Object or duplicate an existing object. Not quite the same as with PSP, where you have have Raster and Vector Layers.

So as Heinz stated, the RGB and Grayscale are applied to the whole image, not just to a layer, or object.
