Video Studio 10+ crashes on selection of an item on the opening menu. The error message is:
vstudio.dat.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. ( And yes, the error message says vstudio.dat.exe. A bit weird.)
There isn't any information in the Windows System or Application log but the Dr Watson log says:
Application exception occurred:
App: ntvdm.exe (pid=576)
When: 5/23/2005 @ 17:28:15.467 (And yes, the year is listed as 2005)
Exception number: 40000005 (vdm event)
Has anyone seen a similar error and know a fix?

Did you try a reinstall?
I had two earlier Ulead products, the first MovieFactory and VideoStudio DV ver. 5.0. MovieFactory installed and worked after patches but it is outdated. VideoStudio DV 5 crashed with a different error.
When VideoStudio 5 crashed I discovered Corel didn't really support it any longer, so I downloaded a copy of VS 10+ trial hoping it would work. It didn't help.
I looked up the directions on the website on how to do a clean install. I cleaned the temp folder and deleted all the Ulead folders and ran a registry cleaner and rebooted before each install. I doubt doing it all over again will help, but what the heck, I'll give it a try.

I followed the directions for a clean install in the link you posted. VS 10+ trial appears to install cleanly. There are no install errors in the Windows Application log. I am obviously not clearing everything out because the 30 day trial counter shows 29 days. I get the same error in the Dr. Watson log when I try to use the program.
Re: Reply
I did another clean install and cleaned the Dr. Watson log before running. The same popup appears but the correct error in the Dr. Watson log is Exception number: c0000005 (access violation).kafoltz wrote:I followed the directions for a clean install in the link you posted. The access violation error generally means that the security measure controlling the 30 day limit has been invoked, ie; has run out, or it thinks that you have tried to circumvent this. If this is the case, then the only way around it is to reformat your hard drive..

Are you saying if I try to install any of Ulead's software, not trial versions but purchased versions, they will not install until after I reformat my drive?vidoman wrote:The access violation error generally means that the security measure controlling the 30 day limit has been invoked, ie; has run out, or it thinks that you have tried to circumvent this. Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5
I purchased DVD MovieFactory 5. There is an install error part of the way through saying DVDMF.exe is closing. The Dr. Watson log saysvidoman wrote:No that is not what I stated. Trial versions have a security measure added, so that at the end of the 15 or 30 day period you can no longer use the program, unless you purchase it.
Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=1912)
When: 2/27/2008 @ 20:18:54.710
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)
The program for pid=1912 is DVDMF.exe.
I performed the steps to clean the old installation of the trial software before trying to install MF 5.
