Won't play in Preview window VS5

I bought a new computer an installed VS5, and all the updates from the ulead site. I see the vido in the bottom section and while stopped it shows in the preveiw window. Whwn I click the play arrow, I get a black screen.
Though I can hear sound associated with the video.
If I forward on the preview bar I can see the clips.
Any suggestions

I suspect the reason no one has replied yet Bruce is that none of us can remember that sort of detail from Version 5, most of us have just upgraded to version 9 - so if you could upgrade to 8 or 9 and still find you have problems I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

If you haven't done so try updating to the latest version of DirectX available on M$'s site.

I forgot myself, but you can't hit the play button before it is rendered. You have to hit the button to the left of it.

I hope 9 is better than 5 (I know it should be) I forgot how much I disliked the controls in trying to edit it.

Been looking at different programs, but I have always liked ulead.

I'll have to check to see if they have a trial version?
