I have recently upgraded from Video Studio 6 to Video Studio 11 Plus. At this point I am unable to use device playback in Video Studio Editor after creating a video project. I get a prompt that says that The project template is not a DV project or audio format is wrong. Here is my project properties.
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 9000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Next problem is that I am unable to create a DVD from the project on my DVD Writer. When I create the DVD, everything seems to burn good to the DVD but when the DVD disc is inserted into a DVD player, it says UNSUPPORTED.
The format that I select for the Disc Burner is DVD-Video. The program then burns a DVD but is unable to play on my home DVD player. I am able to play the video on Windows Media Player, but there is no sound. My media player plays all other videos and music fine.
I also tried to create a DV Video file but I cannot find a way to change to audio format, it will on create it as this:
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Then it says that the audio is not supported for DV playback to my Sony DV Camcorder.
One last thing, since I have tried to make changes that will enable me to burn my videos to DVD, I now get a prompt that says that I cannot view the project in High Quality Playback. I go to Preferences change the drop down menu from Instant Playback to High Quality Playback, but when I open the project and attempt to preview it, the Program prompts again that I am unable to view in High Quality Playback and then switches my project back to Instant Playback.
I should note that everything worked fine in Video Studio 6. I have not made any changes to my computer since installing VS 11.
Some information about my system: I am running two 160 GB Hardrives, 7200rpm, 8mb buffers. I have a 4800+ dual core AMD processor, and a Gigabyte motherboard GA-MA69GM-S2H, this motherboard is brand new and supports all new technology. I am running 2 GB of Ram. Windows Home Version Operating System.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to the forums,
First what do you have set for Device Playback in Preferences, Dual Head Device, Preview Window, or DV Camcorder?. Unless you have the ability to use dual monitors, or a TV along with your PC monitor you need to set this to Preview Window. Since your editing MPEG, you can not use the DV Camcorder, since your camcorder appears not to be DV.
VS does not allow High Quality Playback for the NTSC or PAL DVD settings in Project Properties. You need to change the Compression from DVD to MPEG-2 if you want to use High-Quality Playback. This is done by pressing ALT+Enter to open the Project Properties dialog, then pressing the Edit button. Go to the Compression to tab to change this. It appears that you know how to change the Playback option in Preferences..
Again your video clip is not DV, so using the playback option of DV camcorder is not going to work for you. It's not a matter of just changing the Project Properties to DV, but you would need to render a DV video file, then with a new project started, insert that DV video file, so that you can preview it using a DV camcorder.

more questions
Thanks for info so far. I am trying some of your suggestions now. I do want you to know that my camcorder is DV, so I am still not sure why I cannot send my project back to my DV Camcordor in project playback.
Also, do you have any information as to why I can't burn the DVD?
thanks again,
Jeff

Hi,
I am using Videostudio11 Plus, captured some movies through firewire from sony DV cam into .avi. While trying to EDIT, there is no sound when playing the file, however it shows in its properties. When I put up the clip volume from 100 to 101, the sound is there when playing. Then I try to multi-trim the clip, and the sound has gone.
If I import the clip into Moviewizard and want to play it there is no sound either.
Same happens when palying in Edit mode factory mpg files.
Could you please help.
Thanks
