Video Studio 9 File after failed DVD bruning damaged

Post by BST1375 »

Dear Sir or Madam.
I'm using Ulead Video Studio 9SE since last year and I'm very satisfied.

Today I tried to burn my new project on DVD, but this failed.
A message like "Error with your writer, start your system new and try again" was shown.

After restarting I wanted to open my File, but it stopped by 16% of reading the mpg file.
I tried it several times, also on another PC and after a new installation of the programm.
I had no sucess. The programm is always stopping at 16%.

Was my whole work now done for nothing?
I'm very angry about this programm, because it's not normal that files get killed by failed burning.

Welcome to the forums,

The problem you describe would indicate that your video file (mpeg) has become corrupted, which caused the burn to fail. It's not that VS caused the mpeg video file to be bad.

Without further information it is difficult to determine other possibilities, such as the workflow you're using, the source video files properties being edited prior to burning, and your system information. These all play a very important role in the success or failure of video editing.

Please read this post, and return with as much of the information as possible.

Dear vidoman.
Now my informations should be complete.

But I wonder about following:
When I start the file on another computer without any Video file of the project, it is also stopping at 16% of reading the mpg file.
But there is no mpg file on the other pc. What is the programm reading and stopping when no file exists.

I only can close the programm then with Ctrl+Alt+Entf because it's doing nothing, only showing the 16%.

I also tried it now with Ulead VS 11 on another PC. Also the same problem.
But this PC is stopping complete, I only can switch him of and on again.

When I call the support they tell me I should write in this forum, I'm already doing this.
What's that for a service, i bought this program!

What is your workflow? When you are done editing do you go directly to Share>Create DVD? That can sometimes cause problems.

Please try the Suggested Workflow. When you are finished editing choose Share>Create Disc and choose (PAL or NTSC) DVD Template and render your project to a DVD-compatible MPEG2. When that is finished rendering clear your timeline. Then choose Share>Create Disc. In the burn module select Add Media to insert your new MPEG2 file. Then burn.

Der Black Lab.
I go directly to "Create Disc".
Next time I'll do the workflow as you wrote.

But the problem is still that my vsp-file is not starting any longer.
And my question: Why is it broken after failed burning?
I need this file because it was lot of work

If you call a germany company you can normally send the file to them and they'll help.
But the telephon call from today shocked me really.
Am I a customer of the second class?

Unfortunately files can become corrupt. Several of us adopt a practice of saving frequently, and not to the same file. We will use sequential numbering or some method to save a new VSP while working on a project, just in case the VSP can not be re-opened.

For example if I notice that the program is becoming sluggish, I'll save the project to say, project-02.vsp. Then maybe 10 minutes later I'll save another time to project-02a.vsp and so on. Then if project-02a.vsp does not open at least I'll have the previous one to fall back on.

I'm not sure what you mean in your question
Am I a customer of the second class?
. However I'm going to interpret that to mean they would not help you. Since you're using a freebie, VS9SE, which is a Special Edition, generally bundled with some piece of hardware, there is no support provided for these versions. It has nothing to do with treating you any differently. Anyone that has one of these versions are not entitled to tech support from Corel.

Ok, I understand, my fail is really damaged.
I'll start this project again and save as written.

Operating System complete damaged

Post by BST1375 »

I started my project again yesterday.
I did everything as you suggested.
Today morning i wanted to export into a Image and a DVD folder on my hard disk.

After this job was done, errors like
"Unable to write on C:, some files are damaged"
"rundll32 is damaged"
were shown.
Otherwise VS show a message, that everything was done correct.

After rebooting my operating system, a message "Operating system not found" was shown.
I tried to repair with my Windows 2000 Compact Disk, but there is no chance.
Now I have to install it complete new, my mpg files are on another partition and still available.

Whats wrong with VS, it killed my whole operating system.
On my other two computers i had never problem with this programm under Windows XP Prof.

No VS did not kill your OS. It would appear that you have some type of virus, or just that you have had a hard drive failing. Did you obtain VS from some illicit means? Corel does not write virus code into their programs.

A hard drive is a mechanical device, and can fail with or without warnings. That's why it is best to back up frequently. I've had hard drives, video cards and motherboards all suddenly fail. It certainly was not the fault of any software. It' always easier to blame someone else, isn't it????

It's really easy to blame someone else, but in this case the failure should come from VS because it appeared immediatly after exporting my project.

My hard drive is still ok after reinstalling my OS and i don't think that it was any kind of virus when I use a actual virus scanner.

No, i bought my VS as written above.
And i think it's no illicit version when i bought it with a Fire Wire Card.

First you stated that you're using an SE version which is a free, bundled version, included with your Firewire card. You didn't purchase the program, just the Firewire card. The manufacturer of the Firewire card is whom caused this. Hardware manufacturers that include these "bundled" versions of software, often will "tweak" or re-write the program to work specifically with their hardware.

Again Ulead has no claim in this. If you feel wronged contact the manufacturer, and retailer where you purchased the firewire card. Further if you're going to use Firewire to capture/transfer video from your camcorder to your PC, purchase the full version. It works nicely with Firewire. It's what I always use..
