re-editing re-edit DV format on BR or hd-dvd media

I’ve got some old vhs family videos that i have edited to dvds in mpeg2 format but quality is 1-2 generations back.
Will I gain something in terme of quality if I re-edit in DV less compressed file format ?
If yes will those huge DV files be accepted in MF and burned in this same format on BR or hd-dvd media ?
If yes can these media be used on BR or HD-DVD readers

If you convert them to DV then you may experience some loss because of the color space converion.

They are standard definition and can be used on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disk.
