Smart Proxy Problems
I can't seem to get VideoStudio 11+ to create smart proxy files. I have set the preferences and enabled smart proxy. If I right click on a clip and create a smart proxy file, it indicates that it has. But none show up in the smart proxy manager. If I drag a clip to the edit timeline no proxy file is created either.
What kind of video are you working with?
Smart Proxy is normally used when working with HD video or sometimes SD video on a very slow pc.
In your case, there would be no need to use Smart Proxy for standard definition video, but you might consider it for HD stuff. Though I don't use it myself, others report that the generation of the proxy files can take a long time.
If, for some reason, you wished to generate proxy files for standard definition video, you need to click on "File>Preferences" and click on the "Smart Proxy" tab. You'll then need to set a size lower than your standard definition video in the "Create proxy when video size is above" box. For SD video, you might choose 352x240.
When you then create the proxy file, it will be stored in the Proxy folder, defaulting to your working folder. You can check to see if it's there - if you start with, say a file called 001.avi, the proxy will be named 001_proxy.avi. In fact the proxy will always have an avi extension, even from mpeg2 or other format source video clips.

Smart Proxy Problems
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm using HD video imported from a Sony hard drive camera. Although I have a decent processor preview and editing remains jerky and hard to deal with. So proxy files seem to be a good solution.
I think I figured out how to make it work. Although no posts that I could find addressed my problems specifically, I did find reference to setting the project properties to match the HD video that is being imported. I did that and also made sure the program preferences were set to HD specs also. And now the smart proxy function seems to work just fine. It takes some time to generate the files, especially when dealing with a number of long clips. But its worth the wait.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I find the way VS works with Proxy files somewhat confusing.
They will appear in my proxy manager when they are being created.
After they are created they are no longer in the proxy manager, unless I'm mistaken, yet after they are created VS does use them.
I use a different method to work with proxy file in VS11+, posted it awhile back.

smart proxy
I found very nice to work with smart proxy on AVCHD files on the first project that I tried. But I am finding some problems to create smart proxy on bigger files - longer than 15 minutes. The software shows that it is creating them but, when it gets to the end of one file, an error occurs and the UVS 11 closes.
Is there a way to avoid that?
Thanks,
Clovis
