1. I have a large avi file.
2. I scanned it and it broke it up into 8 pieces
3. I go to piece 2 and split the audio and then outputed the sound as a wav file... when i go back to look at piece 2 the audio is gone...how do i get it back.
1. i have 8 pieces.. i go to piece 1... i only want the middle portion of it
so i mark begining and end... i want to save ONLY that piece as a video file but when i go to share it puts all 8 pieces into one movie..
Im just a little confused on how to take a part of a video and save just that part. thanks so much

When you Split Audio it simply mutes the audio in the video track. Simply unmute the video track and you should have your audio back.1. I have a large avi file.
2. I scanned it and it broke it up into 8 pieces
3. I go to piece 2 and split the audio and then outputed the sound as a wav file... when i go back to look at piece 2 the audio is gone...how do i get it back.
When you say you want to save it as a video file, do you want the trimmed clip saved as another avi, or do you want to render it to an MPEG2 for a DVD. If it's the former, after you mark in/mark out go to Clip>Save Trimmed Video. If it's the latter you will have to delete the portions you do not want and go to Share>Create Video File.1. i have 8 pieces.. i go to piece 1... i only want the middle portion of it so i mark begining and end... i want to save ONLY that piece as a video file but when i go to share it puts all 8 pieces into one movie..

Welcome to the forums. With the audio problem, the easiest would be to highlight video 2 and turn the mute button off. It is virtually in the middle of the screen, to the right of the little digital clock near the bottom right of the preview screen. Splitting an audio track works to create a separate file as you have found. But in effect, the original audio is still there, and Split Audio merely activates the Mute button for the original audio.
The other option would be simply to insert your new wav file into one of the audio tracks below video 2.
As for the video question, you have to be aware that in cutting your AVI into 8 pieces, while you might think you have 8 separate files, in fact they are only "virtual" files. The cuts are only registered in the project file (.vsp) which is NOT a video file. It is a small text file which tells Video Studio what video is included in a project, where it is on the computer, and what cuts and other editing has been made to it). But the original video is still there uncut.
What I do in the situation you describe is to do the mark-in and mark-out in Video 1. Then make sure the marked area is highlighted (selected). Then I go to Clip > Save Trimmed Video. Depending on how big the selected area is, this might take a couple of minutes. But when the Save is done, a new file icon will appear in your library pane. And in fact, a new file is also created just of that selected piece of video.

EDIT: Jeff -- Beat me to it again!!
