Dolby Codec Clarity

Post by newbie45 »

Hoping for an easy answer...

I have read the various posts about SE versions and Dolby Codec and do understand that in general i need to buy the full version ... however having just bought the SE version with a TV card bundle and not being previously aware of the dolby Codec issue (prior to purchase) or that SE was not a full version , i am somewhat unexcited to have to buy the full version just a month after buying the SE version at full price from a commercial software dealer.(here we pay unfair prices for software....)

my only current problem is that Dolby dvd vob file recordings off an LG dvd recorder will not play in VS ...so here is my question.... can i not just buy the Dolby Codec insert for ulead Video Studio ?

Not being a video techy i have not found a solution to this.

Could anyone suggest an easy solution ? short of buying the product twice.

best regards

Did you buy the SE version and it came with a TV card bundle, or did you buy a TV card bundle and Videostudio came with it. FWIW, you shouldn't have paid a dime for an SE version because, as you found out, it is not a full version of the product.

I forget which version of VS (8 or 9) original supported Dolby, but you actually had to purchase the codec for that. Versions since then have included it.

If you indeed did purchase an SE version of VideoStudio I would, in fact, report that dealer to Corel (and let that dealer know of your intentions first - he may offer you a refund  )

I was sold the product as a bundle - "...hey this is what you need .... it is a bundle of card and software ... "

turned out to be VS 9 SE ...which is great albeit the SE dolby part

does ulead not supply a plug in i can buy from them ? I would be happy to buy that rather than a duplicate price for the product.

thanks for all comments

You could try contacting Customer Support. As I said, I don't remember which version required the plug-in.

I am pretty sure it was VS9 that you had to buy the Dolby plug-in for. However, I am pretty sure that plug-in was only for Dolby dual-channel stereo. If it is still available, the original price charged for it was US$29.99. The upgrade price to VS11+ is US$59.99 and of course the Dolby module with that gives you not only stereo Dolby but 5.1 channel Dolby. So I guess it is really a decision whether you pay $30 or $60...

thanks again

just for info .... i am using a Hi8 analogue video and pushing it via a hard drive dvd recorder to the pc as the card turned out a waste.... the colour on record via card was not ok .... too dark etc . It was a pity i was not pushed to the full version from begining . an interesting learning curve...

You might try downloading the 30 day free trial "TBYB" version of VS11 to see how you get on with it. Make a System restore point first, though, to make uninstalling it simpler.
