OK. Something baffles me. I can import AVCHD clips I have taken with my Panny SD1, edit, and output back to AVCHD just fine with 5.1 sound.
And I can output the same movie to WMVHD just fine with stereo sound (1920X1080 ulead profile). However, when I create a 5.1 sound WMVHD (a modified ulead profile), the movie will fail to export. UVS11.5 will show rendering 0% and all of a sudden stop with no error. No file will be produced. I have tried setting the audio in the profile to WMA9.1 5.1 channel lossless and WMA10 professional 5.1 and both results in failure.
Please help.....
PS. AVCHD outputs maintain the correct 5.1ch sound (which I believe is still in DD).
AVCHD to WMVHD fails with 5.1 channel sound (VS11.5)

mlai,
No, I haven't tried this yet, simply haven't had time.
I do remember reading about some updates from MS website that fixed problems with the 5.1 windows encoder, don't know if that's related or not.
When I get time I'll look into the 5.1 windows audio codec, that will take some time as this week is very busy including I have to replace 2 harddisks on the business machine.

mlai,
I made a custom HD-WMV template from scratch.
If I use avchd 5.1 as my source video when I export to hdwmv to use 5.1 I selected Windows Audio Professional 10.
Then when assigning the audio it has to be a 16Bit value.
Mine worked using the 48khz 16bit 5.1 audio (any bit-rate).
Couldn't get any 7.1 to work (invalid parameters) or any other bit settings such as 24bit.
Best to match the output to the input which is 48khz/16bit
My conversions are taking a very long time using 7800 as the max bit rate 1920x1080 framesize (square pixels).
You may want to look into the divx pro format. You can encode hd-divx at 8MBS and it looks nice. Also support interlacing if your computer is fast enough to process an interlaced hd-divx file. In VS to use the divx codec you would use MP3 audio (stereo). To get the divx into dolby you would need an outside program to re-mux the elementary streams into a new avi container.
So, yes under XP I've gotten the WMA Pro10 5.1 audio to work.
Under Vista I've been using WMM6 to convert my HD video files. It's faster and they come out more compliant. In my above render using 1920 causes the encoding time to take way to long.
Vista MovieMaker6 processes these videos about 10 times faster than any other apps I've used so far, it also uses all the cores on the processor and they run about 90%. The hd-wmv videos produced from it are nice & compliant.
For computer playback and small file sizes I don't see anything wrong with standard definition frame sizes like 720x480/576 etc. I don't really see the high def unless it's played back on a big TV.

Thanks etech. Will try some more. OTOH, can WMM6 import AVCHD files? In what format (MTS, M2T, M2TS)?
BTW, can you detail more on your WMVHD profile settings? And how can you set 48K/16 bit? Everywhere I see, with 48K I can only do 24bit with 5.1 channel. And 5.1ch in 16bit always have to be 44K....

Well, maybe look harder, I do have that selection under Audio Professional 10.
Try the 44khz setting at 16bit.
I don't know about your system but even on a fast computer converting avc/h264 to hd-wmv takes a very long time.
To use WMM6 you need to have the codec installed on your system to read the transport stream format and avc/h264 m2t or m2ts files. My system is using the codec from Powerdvd 7 to read the avc/h264 videos.
Maybe Nero 8 ultra codec will also work. Also in WMM6 you probably have to go into the options and disable some of the other codecs on the system, I had to. When you go into that section of WMM6 you will see all the codecs on your system that can conflict with each other.
Not sure how to post how to make the HD-WMV settings, maybe it would be easier for me to send you the prx windows template file. Then you can add that to your existing templates, look at the settings and modify them to your preferences.. I think that would be easier.

I see it has been since February since the last post. Has anyone figured this out yet? What I am trying to accomplish is this. I want to take my avchd videos from my sony sr7 and create a WMVHD with 5.1 surround, that way I can stream all my home movies to my xbox 360. WMVHD w/5.1 works great on the xbox 360 as I have it set up as a media center extender. I have my movies backed up to avchd format dvd, but since I don't have a blu-ray player yet, I want to watch my home movies via streaming to my xbox 360.
I can create a WMVHD in 1440x1080 but without 5.1. When I go to make movie templates and choose wmv as the file type and then go to edit then to the profile tab, choose WMV HD 1080 30p, it says the audio is stereo. There is a customize button there, but when I click it crashes the program.
Any ideas?
