VideoStudio 11 Plus - This product is the worst

Post by ssvme »

At a minimum, no auto update.
You can not move files between the folders in library manager
The supplied graphics and transitions are nothing to speak of. I can get the same if not better using Microsoft Movie Maker. And it's FREE!
Man, some of the shortcuts companies take just to get a product on the market.

And, I have only been working with it for 10 minutes.

Who do I contact if I am not completely satisfied for my money back?

I am glad to see you don't make hasty judgments!!!

For a refund, go back to the same people you bought it from... This Board is staffed by volunteers, not company representatives or employees... And some of us actually like the program, and have given it a bit more than ten minutes...

Of course if you had tried out the 30 day FREE trial first to see if the program was to your liking you wouldn't be in this predicament.

OK...Point taken

I should have tried it for the 30 days as indicated, but bought in on the marketed features shown on the website. So it goes, "Buyer Beware!"

Likewise, many of you may like the product and I am not trying to detract from that, but Corel really does need to do a much better job.

Well if you bought it for the marketed features, which of them is not there?

You will see from this website, that many of us regret the various shortcomings in VS11 especially (I have been using the program since VS7, and despite some problems in VS11, I still regard it as the best version so far). But many of us here try to help out those who run into trouble...

And I am also very familiar and conversant with programs like Vegas, Cyberlink, Pinnacle and Abode Premiere, both Elements and the full version 2 and now more recently 3. Indeed, I like the latter, but of course it is a professional end product. For $100 for VS, however, in effect you get an extremely good and versatile product as compared to something which costs twelve times the price and probably more than that in its learning curve.

If you have criticisms of, or problems with, the program, then of course you are welcome to your opinion. But if they are genuine problems, as opposed to merely criticisms, that is the purpose of this Board, to try to help resolve them. As it is, I am not quite sure what you mean by simply saying 'No auto update'. If you mean the program doesn't automatically update itself, then I am unaware of other editing programs that do so... I am prepared, however, to concede that there might be, but I didn't buy VS for such a feature. Indeed, with editing programs, one needs to be a bit careful about installing updates if the program is working fine without them...

You might also want to give details of what you mean about moving files between the folders in library manager. When I establish different folders in the Video category, for instance, it takes me no longer to open the same files in the new folder as it would to transfer/copy-paste them... So again I am not sure what you mean.

Your criticism of the graphics, however, does strike a chord with me if you mean the masks and such. To me they have always seemed rather silly, naive, klutzy. But then again, I didn't buy the program for them and I don't use them anyway. But if you are referring to the 'graphics' of the menus, I simply don't agree. The Smart Menus in particular are infinitely configurable and really live up to their name. And if you don't like them, then again there are other packages out there which you can use -- and many of us here also use -- instead. Ditto re transitions, though I find nothing wrong with the fairly significant variety you get in VS. But yes, I agree, there are other packages out there, like Adorage or CanopusFX and others, which provide other transitions which you may prefer for particular things.

For me, though, the beauty of video editing lies in the fact that no one package does everything well, and I include a super and expensive program like Adobe Premiere in this as well. I use one program (WinDV) to capture, VS to edit, various other programs to source my transitions (though mainly I simply use the VS FX Cross fade transition as I believe too many fancy transitions can ruin a presentation...), Xara 3D or Cool 3D Production Studio for my titles, Sonic Fire Pro for the music, Nero Wave Edito for audio editing, DVD Workshop or Movie Factory for the authoring stage, and since I usually prepare a DVD Folder rather than burn a disc, Nero for the actual burn itself. But I certainly don't fault Video Studio because I dont do all these things in the one program...

Yes, you can get a lot of the effort done in Movie Maker and yes, it is free. But if you really get into video editing, you will soon come to realise that you can only do so much with it. But if it is cheap and easy which is important to you, then good luck with it...

But you can move files between libraries...

I just copy and paste them in...then delete thumbnail from old library.

for a consumer level product I think it's pretty darn good...

I have been working with VS 11 for only a month, and I think it's a lot of bang for the buck. I'm new to this forum, and as I read through some of the old threads and posts, I get a sense that sometimes users with complaints about VS 11 forget that this is not intended to be a professional level program.

For the money, I think it's a great program. But I do wish that library manager was a little deeper and user friendly. For example, when I have to copy and paste clips or images to transfer them around to other folders, it would be nice to have a "back button" instead of having to go back by selecting from the drop down menu.

As Ken pointed out, all editing apps leave something to be desired. None is perfect. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. That's why many people use more than one.

The old saying is true: You get what you pay for. For $100 I think VS gives you a very robust editing program. Easy to learn with many nice features.

I'm not sure what the OP is comparing VS to, but apparently he wasn't satisifed with that either.

I'm glad of my auto update, it speaks to home right in the middle of my rendering, rendering it totally useless
Moving files has been covered.
Maybe the OP will learn one day that good movie making is about the content that he records not the fancy page curls, slide from left transitions that the crass movie makers add to their projects so that people go wow how did you do that, rather than wow, I never suspect him of commiting the murder..... Now do they use cuts and fade to black in Hollywood or am I juuusssssst dreaming..........

Sorted, OP is now a big fan.....................
