That gets confusing using the Sony HC3, if you capture in HDV it's "Upper Field First". So in VS if you captured in HDV UFF then to down convert to SD you would still use UFF. That's ulead, other programs automatically correct the fielding to make it correct. The fielding is actually how the fields are stored in the output file. As long as the program knows the source's correct fielding it can properly reverse them when encoding to another file.

If you use the HC3 internal down convert & capture standard DV it's "Lower Field First". So after time you can end up with quite a few standard def mpeg2 video files with different fielding.

Thank god there are only 2 fields and not 4 :)

amen for only two fields but I know I see quality difference (my commercial stuff is at 1350BP in WMV) when Ulead takes native UFF and switches to LFF. Saw earlier post on this too. It was a killer for my sharpness. I always read better to go with LFF and was just creature of habit until I checked project properties ( :shock: duh) and saw native input was UFF.
