Increasing volume causes sync problem

I have this large (36GB - 2+ hours) AVI file I need to extract a 40-minute piece from and also increase the volume.

I just noticed that when I increase the volume (300%), the audio/video gradually goes out of sync until it reaches the end and is very out out of sync. I verified this by previewing both before and after changing the volume setting.

Any thoughts/suggestions on how to stop the sync issue?

DVDMF6+ with all known patches.

FWIW, I seen the same thing in VideoStudio11.
