Variable Data Rates For DVD Burning Projects
In Project Properties, Under Compression, there is an option to chose fixed or variable data rates. For all projects I have doe to date, I have used varialbe with a number of 8000, burning MPEG 2 from oringinal AVI files, with audio set at Dolby, 256.. I was using this with success in burning DVD projects that were at least an hour in length, and not that compliacted, strictly video without a lot of filters and overlays. The project I am working on now is smaller in size, (about 10 minutes), but is more complex with multiple filters, overlays, etc. What is the proper rate to use for this type of project?

The following thread should help (ignore the rant about billiards!):

Complex and simplistic........I love it. I take it that the amount or length of video to be burned ties to how high or low you set the variable bit rate. As this particular project I am workin on is only 1 minutes or s in length, I should be good to go with as high as 8000??

You can, but in my considerable experience in mass authoring of dvds I have found a combined limit of 8,000 ensures best compatibility, so I tend to set a vbr of max 7500, 6500 mean and 0 as the lower limit, (Not sure exactly what settings you can change in VS) with audio of 192 to 256 depending on what I have to work with.

Graham just gave a similar answer in another thread: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=29002
