Can anyone tell me how to insert foreign text into a title? I have tried cut and paste and that works on some characters e.g. KVĔTINOVÝ DÍTĔ shows as KVETINOVY DÍTE when pasted (only the Í) worked. Not all have the ALT shortcut option e.g. the Ĕ.

1st you need to have the font of that language installed
2nd you need to try different encoding. Start with "Automatic" then try
unicode. Your post does not tell us which language you are trying to make a title

Thank you for the reply. The language is Czech.

babdi -- you are right about having the character set installed.

Otherwise, I think what GeorgeC was trying to tell us was that he was doing the text in something like Word for Windows. There you can insert all those Czech letters using Hex Unicode. But when you copy those in Word and Paste them in VS, most of them do not appear with the accent marks. It seems pretty clear to me that this is because VS may not recognise Hex Unicode symbols. The Í works because it is a standard ASCI symbol (Alt+0205)...

(I am guessing here, but my guess is based on George's otherwise cryptic comment about the ALT shortcut not working which it won't do with Hex Unicode, not even in Word for those letters...)

That being said, apart from actually installing a Czech font set which VS recognises, as is implicit in Babdi's suggestion, I am not sure what *will* show the correct letters...

For the moment, the only thing I can think of would be to use the letters to make up a title, say, in Word, paste them into a photo editing program and convert them to a photo (e.g. JPEG, BMP) that VS can deal with and insert them that way. If you insert them over a coloured background and make that transparent, it could achieve what you are after.

I believe that VS picks up fonts from Windows fonts folder.( In fact almost all applications do ). I checked Ulead's folder and could not find any fonts folder.

Unfortunately the VS does not support those foreign characters. While most Windows programs (almost all on my PC) when opened the bottom taskbar with the language switch remains active - in any application I can select from installed languages:
even here:

ľščťžýáý - this is Slovak
нвтарк . this is Russian
éáúűí - this is Hungarian

The VS when opened, disables completely the bottom taskbar so it is not possible to select the language.

I tried also several methods of UNICODE conversion or character replacement it does not work.

Any idea how to proceed or shall I go for to competition which handles this issue very well (even the Movie Maker from Windows has no problem with those characters)

Why not create your title in Windows Movie Maker on a plain color background and save in DV (avi) format.
Add that Title video to VideoStudio on an overlay track and use the chroma key function to remove the plain color background.

That is exactly what I am doing now, however the quality of Movie Maker is much lower as from VS.
The Pinnacle works well, but when I am working on Pinnacle I do not need the VS at all, I can edit my videos on Pinnacle.

Another point is that very few of the typefaces in Windows support full character sets. Arial and Times New Roman are two that do. Try plain Arial and see whether it works, if you are using a different one.

Alternatively, use a vector graphics app, like Corel Draw! and export it in a format with transparent background and insert it in an overlay track. This gives superlative results.

I regularly use 4-5 languages in different applications, so I do have all those character sets which support those languages.

Yes, I tried also with Corel Draw, the problem there is somehow I cannot find the proper resolution for VS. When I use a 300 dpi then the letters create some kind of interference with video resolution (tried only in SD, will do also in HD).
The lower resoluttion again creates fuzzy edges (probably it has to do something with the interlacing).
