Unfortunately this method is too complex to use.

Look to your German counterpart:

Yes, I tried also with Corel Draw, the problem there is somehow I cannot find the proper resolution for VS. When I use a 300 dpi then the letters create some kind of interference with video resolution (tried only in SD, will do also in HD).
The lower resoluttion again creates fuzzy edges (probably it has to do something with the interlacing).

Unfortunatelly I cannot insert here some pictures to show the results.
Are you using Windows XP? Have you tried opening Windows "Character Map" (Start ...>>Accessories>>System) and setting a Unicode Font (or possibly an older double byte font) to:

Windows: Central Europe . .. ?

From within Character Map you may be able to create titles by Copy/Paste.

Note: Another user was having trouble with Turkish, which has even less support in windows, but I managed to get it to work with VS 11.5.

I will follow up (check back) later to see if this really does work, and if you have been able to get the proper characters copied over on your machine.

Thanks John

Yes, I tried, unfortunately it does not work (does not work also wih other Corel programs like Draw or Paint).
Some characters work while other characters appear as an empty square.
When I simple copy them in Corel they appear as empty square)

I generated already many alternative fonts with the Character mapand also other programs, noone was accepted by VS.

(They all work well in all MS programs)

I use W XP. SP2
I also do have the Central European charcater sets, but it plays in this case no role.

I'm sorry, but I am stuck with Visual Studio 11.5 on that "awful" MS Vista Operating System booted up for use in the USA, and most of my fonts do support the Central European code page subset of Unicode effortlessly from Character Map to VS 11.5 Titles. Some fonts do not have the "correct" characters, though.

Example: Old Dreadful No. 7 BT.

So if the Windows Central European subset (code page 1250?) with Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, or Courier New are not working for you, please give us the name of the character set (font) that you wish to use so that we can comment on our experience with it in Unicode, Windows CE and DOS CE using Character Map copy/paste (Ctrl+V) to VS 11.5

After all, Visual Studio is produced in a country with far more complex character sets than Latin I or Latin II.
Thank you,

Hi John

I would be happy when I could use any of the character sets. During editing of the Railfilm contest films there are many foreign titles, and I cannot enter those texts into the promotion video or into the subtitles

I would be happy with Arial, Times Roman or Courier, when they would support all those special characters.

As you see even here in the php environment some characters came through, while the another ones crashed

ľščťžýáý

When I entered those characters they were OK on my PC, when the text appeared in the forum they became &yacute etc. The first 5 characters for example would help a lot. (Also in capital letters - upper case)

éáúűí - this is Hungarian

From these character just a single one came through: ű
I need the similar one instead of u on o. that is all.

Look, it is possible here in the Board to get just about any letter. You will see from an earlier post here that I use Cyrillic. And above are just about any diacritical on any Western European (and Turkic) language you care to name. But they don't work in VS. So don't take what can, or cannot, be posted here as any indication of what will work with VS...

I'm at a loss to explain. Below is a sample of what is possible with VS12 using different methods of importing foreign characters into the titler. In particular, when you say "does not work also wih other Corel programs like Draw or Paint", this is completely unfathomable. Draw! is very tolerant, as you can see from the last sample below, with an enormous no. of diacritical Latin characters. I respectfully suggest that your problem may be with the way you have set up your Windows.

Hi

this seams to work with png, the only problem is that the characters are somewhow fuzzier in comparison to the normally inserted characters.
Any idea what to change - Corel draw resolution or the size of characters?

My example above was in 14 points characters, if I remember correctly. You could try it in a more realistic size for titling, say, 48-96 points. The amount of "fuzziness" should not change.

Weaver-
Are you familiar with Regional language settings in Windows Control Panel? Windows XP>Control Panel> Regional Settings may give you some clues as to your current Keyboard and primary Language selections. Be sure to look under all tabs to see the options.

Most users on this forum probably are set up with English as the default language and default keyboard, so we may not see the same problems you do. But it appears that Visual Studio 11.5 does support Unicode font, of which Times New Roman may be the best option for experimentation.

I did go to your train movie contest site for clues to your other languages, but found none.
Good luck,

Hi John

of course I am familiar with regional settings ( I personally use very often 4-5 languages for my correspondence and other work), and I installed all my Windows (since Windows started to support those regional settings in W 95 that all characters etc are correct for letters and other documents). In earlier days I hade a word editor with built-in charcter editor where I could create any character I wanted.
I was very suprised when I found out that the VS does not support those regional settings.

What you see in our TV (www.bahnorama.tv) is slightly different what we have on the DVD. There are the films in original version.
On the DVD we have 3 languages (dubbings) and all films are presented in 1 minute in 4 languages with text only like here

http://www.railfilm.net/festival/english/home.asp

Klick on GALA 2008/Results to open the PDF file.

These titles I need to transfer to VS

I'm sorry, but I still do not understand. I can type Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic (albeit with difficulties for R>L languages), Thai, French, German etc., directly in VS. As it is a top seller in Japan, I assume it will handle Japanese and, presumably, Chinese, as well. I admit I have not tried Czech, but it seems difficult to think that the diacritical marks cannot be treated similarly. I agree my attempts to do so may have a few diacritical marks missing, but I have not specifically set up my computer for the Czech language. Notwithstanding, most of the marks are there. Furthermore, in Corel Draw!, all the marks are there, without exception, yet you say that they do not work in Corel Draw!; why can I do it, yet you cannot?
