video studio 10- error message, encountered problems

Post by olsonju »

Hi,
I sent a request last night to this forum. I didn't get a response, so I started looking for my post and could not find out. So now, I don't know if this is a repeat or not.
When I work on my video project, I get the ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND HAVE TO CLOSE, so often that I am not able to make much progress. I also have to been really careful, and wait for the hour glass to finish its cycle, it is taking inordinately long, and something is wrong. the problem seemed to begin after i had added music to my tracks. my computer is new, and i included the details in my profile. i don't know how to include it with my message though. i looked up my free space and included it too. i am concerned that i have overloaded the drive but really don't know what direction to choose to get help.

any ideas would really help me from not giving up the project.

No, it is not a double post. The last post I can find from you, apart from this one, was dated 12 November 2007.

As for your current problem, we don't have enough information. We don't know what format video you are editing or what your project properties etc are. Thanks for filling in your system details, though.

Please read the top sticky post on this Board which says "Please read this before posting" -- http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 1454#41454 . Then come back with the information and someone may be able to help.

vs10- error message - then program closes

Post by olsonju »

Hi Ken,
thank you for advising me that i did not provide enough details. i do SEARCH for solutions, but haven't seen anyone talk about their program shutting down.
MY PROJECT PROPERTIES:
file size 663.OKB (678912 bytes),version 10, duration 37:17, edit file format MGEG files, NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps), MGEG files, 24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps, upper field first (DVD-Ntsc), 4:3, video rate:variable (max 9100kbps),audio date rate: 448 kbps, dolby digital audio, 48 KHz, 3/2 (L,C,R,SL,SR)

I bought a new computer to be able to handle the "load" of data. Everything was going smoothly until I started adding smart sound to my video. The project seemed to suddenly slow down, and become tempermental. I couldn't hurry because and rush the hour glass, then the program would freeze. it seems worse when i am in the audio section, when it tries to load the sound waves it takes forever. lately the message VS HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE pops up. i let the program close, then patiently reopen it, but never can advance much further on the project.

sorry, i am not sure how else to explain the problem to you.

You might need to go to http://www.smartsound.com/support/updat ... duct=ulead as there is an update file for the SmartSound QuickTracks plug-in in Video Studio. This is what the SmartSound website has to say:
"Why should I update Quicktracks?

The purpose of this update is to provide the latest release of SmartSound Quicktracks. In addition, the update offers compatibility with Vista, QuickTime 7, faster decompression of single track downloads, improved purchase process, compatibility between Ulead and Roxio and general bug fixes for older versions."
I can't really comment much more about the plug-in as I don't use it. Instead, I have the full Sonicfire Pro 4.0 program which is the main SmartSound program for editing SmartSound music (and fitting it better to the video...). And from that I export the edited SmartSound tracks in .wav format for inclusion in my video projects.

There used to be a note on the SmartSound website about compatibility of SmartSound with certain versions of QuickTime, but that seems to have gone now apart from the above reference to the update patch improving compatibility with QuickTime7. I do recall, however, having a small problem with SonicFire when I first installed it. The SmartSound tech help people told me to make an adjustment in my QuickTime installation and the SonicFire problem was solved.

hi ken,
i downloaded the patch and it seems to help. sometimes the program freezes, the curser still moves but that is all. when i use CTL, ALT,DELETE, it says non responsive program. is there anything else you might think of?

so i have to shut down, and hope that i don't lose too much of what i just worked on.

i also bought pro sonic 4 progam but it is too complicated for my simple mind. i use only use the quicktracks that came with it.

thank you helping me, i will keep plugging along.

I get this error from time to time, but last night I was working on a project and it happened to me 3 times in about an hours time. It was really driving me crazy.

I'm not sure what caused it. An update of another app that is conflicting? I guess I'll see what happens when I work on it again tonight.

This project is fairly more extensive than what I normally do. Besides about 150 dv-avi clips there are several uncompressed Digital Juice and Xara 3D clips on overlays, transitions, slo-mo, titles, filters, and audio. I also had Ripple Editing enabled on most tracks, but that didn't seem to be working and I had to manually adjust several clips. So maybe that had something to do with it.

All I know is I got to the point where after I made a significant change I immediately hit the Save button, not necessarily to save the project but to save my sanity. :x
