I have installed Videostudio 9 SE (Version: 9.00.0100 SE DVD)
Although the program appears to load OK, when I click File > Preferences, there is a slight delay and the program crashes with the following error:
Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Hard to tell from what you've described. Your system seems fine.
You might try uninstalling it and re-installing.
Do you have more than one user account? The default main account is "owner" in XP Home. I wonder if the problem might relate to installing from another account.
Try basic things like clearing temporary files, defragmenting your hard drive and also scheduling a disk check to rule out hard drive issues.

Uninstalling/reinstalling it definitely isnt the issue as this is a clean system install which was prompted by my last hdd failing, so my system has been started from scratch again. I had this program running fine on my last system before hardware failure, the only difference being a different hard drive. There is other software that has been installed, are there any known conflicts between video studio and particular software packages?
I'll try the suggestions though when I get a chance and see if they make any difference.
