Can't open RAW Files

Post by BillS22 »

After upgrading from PI11 to PIX3 I can't open my Minolta 7D RAW files.

My camera is listed as a supported camera.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Does it do that with all your RAW images or only with some?

Have you done anything to these files prior in PI 11?

It does it with all RAW files on my computer.

It's as if the RAW engine did not install.

I need to know what file runs the RAW engine, and where it's looked on my system. If I did, I could look and see if it's there.

Then it's there, it would be nice to get my hands onRaw engine and reinstall it. But my product download is one big CAB file, and I don't know what file I need to re-install.
Thanks,
Bill

I just looked around in the Corel Directory and couldn't find any files that have RAW in it (searched RAW*.* and *RAW.*), assuming the RAW engingine has the word RAW in it.

I don't think the RAW engine, or plug-in (whatever it is) installed.
Thanks,
Bill

I take that back, I did locate two files:
ULIBRAW.DLL
U32RAW.FIO

I tried opening my RAW files with a different program and they opened, yet, when I thry with PI X3 I get this error:

"Unable to open the file"

I think you have a corrupted installation. Completely remove PI from your system. BTW, what is your system?

Here are some instructions meant for XP systems. You will have to apply a bit of lateral thinking and substitute the pointers to the software version with X3 and the Ulead may need to be replaced by Corel also.

Note: Make sure you still have a copy of the installer before you uninstall the software. Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

Procedure as recommended by NickD

To reinstall the program here are the steps that Ulead suggests:

1. Please launch Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder>Options and on the View tab check "show hidden files and folders".

2. Empty contents of your Temp folder under C:\Windows\Temp.

3. Uninstall Ulead PhotoImpact using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.

3a. Goto C:/Document and settings/ and under each user listed look for a folder called Application data. Here you may find a Ulead Systems/PhotoImpact folder. If you do open it and delete the folder corresponding with the version you are trying to re-install.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems then delete the PhotoImpact folder.

5. Go to Start > Run and type: "regedit" then click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

7. Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact, delete the said entry.

8. Please delete all PhotoImpact folders on the ff: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\

9. Close regedit and restart your computer.

10. You can now proceed to reinstalling PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.

Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

Nick

I hope this will get your problem solved.

I'm running XP with 2gigs of ram and an Intel dual processor.

But you are right, I did not closed my AV (and other apps) before installing X3.

I have printed your instructions and let you know the out come.

Thanks Henz, PI X3 is working properly.
I followed your steps only up to step 3.

Here's what I did

1. Please launch Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder>Options and on the View tab check "show hidden files and folders".

---> I did this

2. Empty contents of your Temp folder under C:\Windows\Temp.

---> I did this

3. Uninstall Ulead PhotoImpact using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.

---> But here's where I did somethning different, but it fixed my problem.

Instead of uninstalling PI X3, I clicked REPAIR. When repair finished I opened X3 and I was able to open RAW files too. Good enough for me.
Thanks,
Bill

Glad it worked. Unless you have an installation CD (not a downloaded version) there is no 'Repair' option.
