Canon HG10 & Movie Factory SE
Canon HG10 & Movie Factory SE
This is the free software given away with the camera, so I hope it's OK to post my problem here. I just hope someone can help.
I have just bought the camera and installed the software.
No matter how I try to run the Movie Factory, it doesn't start and I just get the box with the "Movie Factory has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" error message.
Pentium 4; 3.80GHz
WXP SP2
2 Gig Ram
NVidia 6600 256 MB Graphics
55.5GB free on C: Drive, Movie Factory installed on H: Drive, 13GB Ram free.
I have un-installed and reinstalled the software, There are no problems in Device Manager, I have tried to download the patch mentioned elsewhere (ftp://ftp.ulead.com.tw/pub/Updates/Cano ... h_0808.exe) but cannot get to the file: following the link gives me a page saying that the page cannot be connected.
I have not connected the camera to the PC yet, or edit a video, this is purely trying to start the prog.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks
Jim

installing elsewhere than the default location shouldn't present a problem, however you are having a problem and so perhaps installing to the default location (i.e. on your C drive) might cure the problem, Worth a try.
When doing so please use the clean re-installation procedure rather than add/delete programs in the Windows control panel.

Well, it didn't work, I'm afraid.
I followed all the clean install instructions, ran CCleaner, Registry Mechanic then CCleaner again, restarting the PC after each clean, did a search in WExplorer for Ulead and for Corel, found nothing and then installed.
I let it install into its own default directory, then restarted the computer, tried to start the Movie Factory from the Corel Guide Menu and got the same old error message.
The same thing happens if I try to start it from the Start Menu.
What should I try next?
THanks
Jim

There is something on your computer that MF doesn't recognize and can't along with such as special dvd ripping software, special Xvid players/codecs.
Fix em all codec packs or the one in all codec pack fix.
Commonly known as a codec conflict.
You will have to find the program and codec's it installed that's conflicting with MF.
That's usually the problem, another problem can also be your video drivers and other Capturing Software such as ATI devices etc.

See if there is anything in this link that might help.

I just can't work out what's wrong.
I have un-installed every single video / DVD application (where *do* they all come from?
) on my PC with the exception of Media Player.
So I've got rid of Quick time, Power DVD, Real Player and a few other non-related apps that I just never use.
Cleared all temp folders, in other words did all the usual housekeeping jobs, defrag; chkdsk /r; registry clean, etc.
Did another clean install of the Corel Application Disc and rebooted the PC (for about the umpteenth time today!), tried to start Movie Factory, and before anything else appears on the screen, got the same error message. "Movie Factory has encountered...and must close. Please tell Microsoft about the problem."
I have searched this forum but cannot find anyone else having the same problem
I think I'm about to ditch the Corel applications and try something else. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim

Just a thought: How important is the video card in all this?
I'm using an Nvidia card made by Asus with 256MB Ram. It's a 6600LE model. Now: On the box, it says "Microsoft DirectX 9.0 support." I see on the readme file on the Corel disc it says that DirectX 10 will be installed.
Could there be a conflict there?
I don't particularly need a fancy card for games etc., but if spending another 150 pounds or so will make it all work, I'd do it.

Jim W,
You may have to install windows again from scratch to a new clean harddisk.
I don't think it's your video card, but one can only guess and suggest possible solutions. So take a look at your audio drivers.
I would stop re-installing / installing the program 10 times, that's not necessary, it's obvious you have a conflict on that computer.
If you wish to proceed with help then LIST all of your hardware components on that computer including their name and model number, then list the software you have installed (if you can).
Then wait for replies, at first do not jump at the first replies suggestions, I would wait until a few replies and see if the experienced persons can collectively make some suggestions. There is a lot of great advice on this forum.
It may just be faster & easier for you to re-install a fresh copy of windows again. Just do not install things like your web cam and other video/audio apps before installing MF5.6.
Actually Jim, it can be a very common problem and you are not alone, I know many that cannot run some programs on their windows computers, not with just ulead applications, ulead along with others.I have searched this forum but cannot find anyone else having the same problem

Thanks, Etech, I understand what you're saying and will follow your advice.
I have been feeling that I'm due (or at least, my PC is) a clean Windows re-install, but I just can't seem to make a proper ISO bootable CD with all the updates from MS site, so was going to wait until XP SP3 is available, then do it, quick!
I think I'll do that.
In the meantime, I might have found a way round things: There is a piece of software called VoltaicHD which will, apparantly, convert the AVCHD file into AVI so I can use other editing software.
I can get it for my PC (desktop) and MAC (Powerbook intel core duo laptop thingie), so should be able to download files in the field to the Mac, then bring them home...
Will I be able to take them off the Mac and work on them on the PC then put them back on the mac for easy travelling?
Thanks again
Jim

If I remember correctly when using a Mac Laptop Core2-Duo we played avc/h264. You should be able to use them and convert them in IMovie.
I think you have to get iLife which comes with a few programs including iMovie.
Mac iLife:

The text of the bottom right says HD formats are supported. You do have to check your OSX.xxxxxx version & iMovie compatible version(s).
