Don't you just love these Newbie questions. What seems to obvious to the experienced, just is NOT to the new kid on the block.
I have edited my first full video package and am ready to burn a DVD for play on my DVD player. HOWEVER..... I have gone to Share, then chosen Creat Disc, then checked DVD, then added VSP files for my video, the UNCHECKED Create Menu, as I don't want this feature. I then hit NEXT and get the preview screen. Hitting the Play button brings up the preview. HERE is where the problem comes. I hit NEXT and with my mouse key left clicked on NEXT, the NEXT button lights up and when I remove my finger from the left button, the hourglass is visible for just a moment and then disappears and from here on NOTHING happens. Am I missing a step here somewhere? I'm baffled and have spent just too many hours trying to figure this out with no success. HELP and Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Your problem is a relatively common one. It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated November 2007 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which do appear linked to Windows updates. The 'no action around preview' seems to be one of them.

Also, when people have problems we suggest they follow what we call the Suggested Workflow. That is, when you are finished editing, go to Share>Create Video File and choose the (PAL or NTSC) DVD template. This will render your project to a DVD compatible MPEG2. When that is finished you clear the timeline then click Share>Create Disc, where you will insert (Add/Insert Media) your MPEG2 into the burning timeline.

Thank you both, Ken and Jeff for your advice. I will follow up on this later today when I get some spare time and will keep you posted on my success.Ken Berry wrote:Welcome to the forum. I have followed both yours and Jeff's suggestions with no luck at all. I was suspecting I had not rendered correctly and am a 'little' grey' in that area, but was able to take an AVI file and bring it up in Window's Movie Maker and render it there to an Mpg file and then burn it to a DVD disc.john veale wrote:Thank you both, Ken and Jeff for your advice. Back then to Ulead VideoStudio ll plus. I imported the mpg video file and again got to the Preview stage just before burning, but the 'NEXT' button would still not do anything for me. I do not want to create chapters in my video so I have uncheckedAdd/Edit Chapter. Next then takes me to the preview screen where I can preview the video but again, I cannot proceed past that point with the Next button on the preview screen.
In frustration, I once again imported my mpg video from the earlier created video file where the video was rendered in Movie Maker, but a window opened just saying that there was already such a file, did I want to write over it. No......so there I stand at the moment.
Re the patch I downloaded. I cannot find any of the added video clips or see any different features in my editing program. Could I have done something wrong where the download did not get added to VideoStudio? I am pretty ignorant here. Dah....you already noticed! ha.
Thanks a bunch and I look forward to any help you patient guys may be able to give.
John
