Sound Issues with VS11

Post by bkersh1 »

When i play my project or mpg2 video file the audio (music from my itunes collection) sounds great but when i burn DVD and play there is a scratchy sound with the vocals??

I check off normalize video (even though I'm not sure what that is supposed to do).

Any other advice? I went from video file to ISO or image and then DVD.

Thanks

What audio formats are you converting to and from? iTunes are usually AAC or MP3. Video files can contain audio an almost any format. Your final DVD should be LPCM or AC3. When you burn a DVD from an ISO file, the audio/video won't be converted or altered in any way (during the burning step).

Try setting the volume level to about 75%. I've forgotten exactly how to do this in Video Studio, but I had a similar problem when converting MPEG-2 audio to AC3, and reducing the volume took care of it. I realy don't understand what's wrong with Video Studio's CODECS, because converting from one digital format to another shouldn't cause "overload" distortion (clipping)...

Don't normalize, because this may conflict with the 75% settings. "Normalization" usually means to increase the level, if necessary, so that the peak level is exactly 0dB (the digital mazimum). For example, if the highest level in the file is -3dB, the volume of the entire file will be increased tby 3dB.) If you normalize a 2nd time, nothing happens. Most digital audio files (and CDs) are already normalized.

But, sometimes "normalize" is used to describe a type of automatic volume control, where only the quiet parts of the file are adjusted-up.... From reading the Video Studio manual, I can't tell what they mean by normalization.

Doug - Thank you very much for the tip. It seemed to do the trick.
