Analog capture not working
Analog capture not working
I recently purchased Movie factory 6.0 plus. I have attached a Plextor convertx PX-M402U capture device. It converts analog signals to MPEG. I used this to capture video from old VHS'tapes or TV shows with Video Studio 8.0 It all worked fine. I decided to upgrade to MF 6.0 and now when I try to capture, I am unable to do so with MF 6. MF 6 recognizes the Convertx under analog TV on the capture screen, and the video plays and has audio on the preview screen. Under the "fixed duration" mode, when I click "capture" the preview stops until I click "stop capture" and then I get the error message: "File may be corrupted" . Trying the "set auto capture" mode, when I click the "capture video" button the video continues on the preview screen, as if everything is going O.K. When I click "stop capture" in either mode no clips are stored in the clip bar. I've tried the support group but unfortunately I'm getting suggestions like plug in the capture device. I belive the drivers and Convertx box are properly installed since Video Studio continues to work.

Looking at the specs for that Pextor, VS8SE came with it, which more than likely was tweaked to work with the Plextor.
Don't be concerned about having to use one program to do it all. If you can capture using VS8, then do so. Once you have the video clips on your HDD, you can use whatever program suits your fancy, to edit or burn DVDs.
So I'd use VS8 to capture, and DVDMF6+ to build your DVDs..

Did the capture device come with any software to capture with?
Usually these devices require certain templates to capture with.
Like only using mpeg audio and certain predefined video bit rates.
A standard capturing template would be something like
720x480, 4:3 Aspect Ratio, 8000kbs Video Bit Rate, Upper field first, Mpeg audio 48khz stereo@224kbs
Usually the hardware chipsets go in increments of 1000 for the video bit rate.
I think if the template your trying to capture with was assigning Dolby the capture will fail. Whatever template you make needs to be compliant with the hardware chipsets on the capturing device.
You can make a custom template in the "Disc Template Manager" and then select that template to capture with in the capturing module.
Click on the lower left Icon -> Disc Template Manager" to make custom templates.
If you can preview the video usually it can be captured. When using a hauppauge PVR 150 capture card I have to make custom templates to capture analog video from it. It to also only capture mpeg audio.

Edit: Sorry didn't notice the device came with VS8se. Yes, the drivers were supplied with VS8se to use the device. Maybe try a custom template anyway, if not then I'd just do as Ron says and capture with VS8se. If you do try to make a custom template make the template "Match" the same capturing properties as VS8se does with respect to the video/audio parameters. So I'd use VS8 to capture, and DVDMF6+ to build your DVDs.
Thanks for your replys, I'd kind of assumed that I would have to continue to use Video Studio 8 to capture but that upsets my orderly mind. Actually I think the Plextor device came with WinDVD, and I think I got Video Studio with a Pioneer DVD drive. One thing I forgot to mention yesterday is that I can capture stills from the video with MF 6 properly and store them either in BMP or JPEG. So I think that there must be something relatively simple that can fix capture video. I'll give a try to making a custom template. The template I've seen does use dolby, so maybe that's the problem.
analog capture
Thanks again for your help!!!! I made a custom disc template without Dolby digital, that looked just like the template that Video studio 8 uses and video capture is working just as it should. Too bad that the support group couldn't help as well as you guys did.....
